I can't run it, I can barely run GW. All my money is going into schooling right now so I can't afford a new computer.
im runing it for now without many problems with a geforce 8600 2gigas ram, and xp, and im playing from Argentina i dont have grate shadows efects and some of the spectacular textures. but i can play it well with a 45 average FPS. but yeah if have THE PC your jaw will drop. People im your Friend and i recomend that you try AoC!

well, solitaire isn't really a good comparison. it was originally implemented into the first fully graphics based OS's as a fun way to get used to using a mouse and grew in popularity mainly from business machines that didn't think to remove such games. WoW had in BC addressed concerns previous to that by having smaller base raid sizes to accomplish content. in Wrath, they addressed issues of the large a "gap" in quest to tier content and shrank that gap. i think they failed to realize that the badge system in TBC as well as keying for heroics was the real reason for that gap, but probably more surprising is that it was more than the top 100 ranked guilds hitting 80 in a week... i believe it was 9 months after BC that my guild hit BT with any reasonable success due to keying and gear checks... well, naxx isn't going to tide over the masses for much longer, and i'd imagine that t9 will be long awaited by even casual guilds before the 6 month mark. as for other MMO's, comparing to WoW is always going to happen. and WoW does have a back story that can be ignored or craved depending on the person. most other games didn't have multiple precursors out before jumping into the MMO realm. i imagine that future MMOs will fall into these same two categories: those who copy WoW and WAR in some way with a varied interface and plot, but similar game play and design, or those who try something different. all we say in '08 was several games trying the "new" and not expecting the amount of preplanning or time to get it up and ready for the 24/7 living in the basement player to have a few months of uninterupted content.
lol with my old comp it would lag so bad at the log in screen it would take like 30 sec to type in the account name lol
if your computer sucks its because your not hardcore. games need to push the envelope with graphics and gameplay and not sacrifice because cheap gamers cant afford a new comp. the graphics were awesome and the requirements are not all that, also you can turn your settings down...so its simple. A game like WAR with massive amounts of people would lag people out more than a highly graphical game like AoC...at least for me it did.
In other words, cheap gamers bring the industry down. Of course, if you have a wife and/or kids, then you would probably be excused to some extent.
You can buy gaming pcs from Dell on a payment plan that most people can afford if you don't have the cash. But yes cheap gamers do hold back the industry. That and MMO's just require a ton of resources and devs still haven't figured out how to get high end graphics to run smoothely with hundreds of people on the screen even with the best pcs.
Cheap gamers...? Well I'm sorry for not having any money. I mean, I'm 19. Clearly I should be a millionaire by now.
not saying you should be a millionaire im sure they are not saying that cuz they themselves probably are not what they are saying is if you want to game and you want to have the best graphics then dont complain when your PC sucks is what i think they are getting at if you want to run a game at high settings and have a good computer and make games better then you need to maybe sacrifice other stuff to afford the computer parts?! i know i sacrifice some stuff when i want other things that are not in the tight budget (ala my 2nd monitor)
What is so important about pushing the graphics ? The only times I've seen developers regard better graphics as important is when they are trying to use it as a selling point. A selling point that will be lost in a year or two when someone comes along with better graphics. But on the other hand, MMOs exist to make a profit for the company running it. Pushing the graphics up means that they are excluding customers and thus reducing revenue while at the same time increasing development costs. So getting the graphics any better that 'good enough' doesn't seem such a smart move. And after a while of playing a game, I find that the graphics simply stop mattering. But the gameplay still matters, and is what pulls me back. That's because the problem isn't one of coming up with a good algorithm to render everything. The problem is in the number of things the client needs to process. For example, in Eve Online the battles often take place with your allies and enemies being too far away to be visible (at that distance they don't even take up a pixel), so all you see is a small icon showing their location, or the location of their drones. But even then, turning off those icons is enough to seriously boost your framerate from unplayable to playable levels. Even if your using the classic graphics* on a modern computer. *Eve Online currently has two options for graphics rendering. The classic graphics which were with the game release in 2003, and the trinity graphics released in december 2007.
Because when i spend 1500$ on a pc I want to get my moneys worth, not a game that looks like it was from the original Atari. That and even when the graphics are are supposedly sacrificed for performance I find most of todays games to be horribly lacking in content, the mmos have seriously have had a hard time getting themselves out of the box and the new games that try to push the envelope can't get the following to make the money.
pushing graphics is all about pushing technology. When you push a technology to its limit you find a new technology even better than before. Playing a game like AoC was awesome because it had really good graphics, and even my year old comp could play on it with max settings with ease. Style and appeal of a game comes in the form, a lot of times, of graphics. This is why Darkfall catches a bad rap on graphics all the time saying they are outdated which I dont think is the case, but I will not deny that they are probably not up to par with something like AoC. Making games to make money is why most gamers are dis-satisfied with thier current game. If developers made games to fit a particular crowd then the games would be more fun IMO rather than bastardize games like WAR that is suppoosed to focus on PvP, but fails so horribly at it and has a LOT of PvE required to play the game for all intensive purposes. Graphics matter to me as no matter how much you play you still have to look at what your doing and graphically good games make the game better I think if both games were to have equal gameplay. the only problem with graphical intense games is the fact that they tend to cost more money to develop ad require more time to develop as more time has to be spent on developing the graphical system. Take the same game and have one with better graphics...I will go with the one with the better graphics.
