Just like DRM the official justification for GameGuard being there doesn't hold up to scrutiny, nor do the results. And, just like DRM, it causes problems for the legit customer. Because those people complain, then keep paying for the game. So which scenario should I be looking at here: - NProtect know that GameGuard will never work, but they keep selling it because some companies will buy it. Meaning they know they only need to make it look like it's working. - NProtect think that GameGuard could actually work. Meaning they have never listened to a competent computer security expert, let alone hired one. Meaning they have no idea what they are doing, and they ignore all the evidence to the contrary. - Blocking the hacks and bots is just an excuse to let them install it for some other reason.

Answer these questions and I might: What would it take for you to install a game if you knew the game came bundled with spyware ? Where do you draw the line between spyware and programs like GameGuard ? That isn't likely to get Gameguard removed unless I get enough people also boycotting all games with it. Since the guards fail, why do you tolerate them when they cause problems ? Yes they all have hacks. But in my experience games without GameGuard have way less hacks than those with it, making their anti-hack methods much better. Mainly because they don't rely on something that doesn't work. When hacks showed up in Guild Wars and Eve (MMOS without a guard program) they were fixed within days at most. The really nasty ones were fixed within hours. When hacks appeared in Maple Story, they remained for weeks. Then Gameguard got updated and most of the hacks stopped for a week as people downloaded the new versions. Then the problem was back to what it was before as everyone got hold of the new version of the hack, which used the same method to hack the game, but was now updated so it could pretend to be the new version of GameGuard. Now lets compare the scale of the hacks. First Guild Wars: - A hack where you could put the guild hall button on your guild menu, then teleport to and from the guild hall and pre-searing. Meaning you could have items way above what you would need in the starter areas. Not much harm there. - A dupe exploit. This would of caused massive disruptions to the game economy, except ANET acted quickly. Within hours of people starting to abuse this exploit, ANET had blocked it and written a script to go through the server logs and ban anyone who had used it (thus removing the duped items). Well before the gold farmers started using it. Now lets look at the hacks on maple story: - Multiple invulnerability hacks. When one was finally closed, another would be found. And it took months for Nexon to close the first one. - Hacks to make you fly around rapidly for faster movement, and to prevent people clicking on you. If they can't click you, they can't report you for hacking. - Item vacs to pick up all the items you can on that map, despite them being out of range. - Making melee items hit enemies further away than ranged weapons can. All of which got so heavily used by gold farmers that when they actually got blocked, the in game value of items crashed to the point that most players could afford them without bought gold. Bots would also be a problem. But I suspect that monitoring server logs to detect botters (regardless of the bot they use) will be much more reliable than trying to block the bot on the client.
Who cares if people are calling it demons vs. angels. Should be more concerned with the amount of bots there's gonna be.
