Well today I get the last few parts I've been waiting on to build my new comp. This is my first build so I am pretty excited. Hopefully I should have it up and running tonight and worst case tomorrow. What I went with is as following:

Using Artic Silver 5 for thermal compound and went with Vista 64 to take advantage of the extra ram I got and DirectX 10. Hopefully everything goes smoothly when putting it together and runs properly. Looking forward to OCing this, but want to get everything stable at stock settings first.

Will post pics after I get everything together and running.

should have picked up a full tower, also, should have picked up an i7 rather since Intel has officially cut off support for DDR2 ram. When you next upgrade you will then need to buy new ram.

although it would have been a bit more expensive.

other than that it looks really good and about what my current computer is like until I get my ram to complete my i7 setup.

I went with this because it is cheaper than the i7, but it should do me well for the next couple of years.

Going to the i7 would have cost you another $50 on the MOBO, $120 on the processor and from $80-$200 on RAM (depending on whether you wanted 3gb for 32bit OS or 6gb for 64bit OS).

For that cost you really are not gaining all too much in terms of gaming performance (unless you have the balls and the brains to overclock the thing). Right now, gaming seems to benefit more from higher clock speeds than more processor cores.

Looking at your purchase I think you did good for building a machine.

Silverstone makes some nice modular power supplies. I have the 600W and it's great for cable management.

    Concur.

I got a packaged deal with one of their 700w modular power supplies. It's really clean and really quiet.

check out Ultra X3 PSU's, they make a 1000-watt for $300, best on the market if you ask me. But, silverstone, corsair, etc will be good brands as well.

always get modular. it makes things a LOT easier.

also, having a top-o-the-line computer will get you into more beta's. contrary to what some say the devs invite way more people on top notch specs than crap specs.

Right now I've got everything working properly and OC'd the CPU to 3.8 and running Prime95 to torture test it for stability. Temps at load are between 47-52C, a little high but that is still under the max 65C.

Update: Temps have dropped between 47-49C after 2 hours time at load.

Your rig is significantly made lamer by the presence of that CRT.
