Sad thing is stuff like this has happened before... just wretched that as a society people haven't moved past this sort of barbaric crap.
Sigh...I look at this and it upsets me that there is no death penalty in the UK. Chances are though he will be gutted in jail at some point or other, I hope anyway. But yeah the world is getting worse and worse.
This is probably one of the most disturbing things I have heard. I can't even comprehend how someone could do this. I would be interested to know why or how someone turns out like this. How someone can be so morally backwards. If I do recall correctly even in jails some things are taboo and being a child rapist is one of those things. I agree w/ the getting gutted in jail as a good possibility
Strikingly similar to the Josef Fritzl case in Austria (which was, natch, mentioned in the article). It's kind of funny to me that you guys assume this crap hasn't been going on since the dawn of man; it's just easier to find and expose them now. This doesn't have anything to do with "the world getting worse"... The most interesting part of this story to me is how much more publicly exposed this family was, and still nobody cared enough to put it together what was going on.
The scary part is how the mother and brother both went to authorities years ago and the girls refused to cooperate. You can't do much if the two women are denying it.
This is a problem with any system. What is the trigger? Make it too sensitive and it goes off on a family that really just has a clumsy kid. Make it too insensitive and something like this gets missed. Then you get into the whole aspect of, "It isn't my business" mentality. I really don't see the world as getting worse, it is just the same. I took a classic literature class once, not saying this subject came up. We have been doing the same exact same shit to each other for the past 2,000 years. Yeah we have all this technology and other modern things but, a humans we haven't changed. There was a polygamist out in Texas that was marrying 12 year olds just recently. I remember reading another story where a family was in a cult and kept their two boy near starvation. All the while cutting parts of their flesh off and eating it to appease whatever god they worshiped.
The real question is how did this go on for so long. I don't claim to be an expert in these things, and I know a few of our members are sensitive about this issue (because it happens) but I can't picture how one man can do so much damage.
That wife should receive some sort of "punishment". If she left him and knew what was going on she had a responsibility to do soemthing about it but instead stood by and watched it happened. At least the son went to the police...imo the cops are a little lame too. Regardless of what the daughters say that should be enough to go on. It's a little sickening to think that this goes on elsewhere but we all know things are never isolated.
The thing is, he beat her and pretty much put the fear of god in her. I personally dont understand how someone can put so much fear into people that they are afraid to go to the cops, especially if the guy doesn't have mob connections or anything. If they had just cooperated with police that bastard would have been barred and gutted long ago. @Ryld: Child raping is taboo for sure in prison. HOWEVER raping YOUR children is even worse. Unless he's in a maximum security prison, I give him one year max.
I don't understand why people are so shocked by the twisted, often misguided events of human nature. Human's are vile creatures and only through culture, and community have we created and accepted what we now call morals. Think back in recorded history of all the horrible, and tragic events that have occurred; does this really surprise you that much? There are sick people in this world, always has been, always will be.
Its not the fact that it happened that really bothers me (dont get me wrong, I think its completely twisted), its more that it managed to occur for so long.
