Ok from what I remember it is fairly easy to replace RAM in a laptop correct? There are only 2 slots so if I want 4 gigs I have to get two 2gig sticks? What type of RAM would you recommend for a new laptop? I am very weak on my knowledge of laptops so any advice would be helpful.
Well first of all, yes, you'll need two 2Gb sticks, secondly, what brand and what type of laptop you got? Without knowing those things it's as good as impossible to tell you what RAM to get Oh and remember, XP 32 bit can only use 3.2Gb RAM instead of the full 4Gb.
I used this site when I upgraded my laptop last year. http://www.crucial.com/ Their prices are actually very good and it has a user friendly interface were you put in the manufacturer, make and model of your laptop and it tells you what you need.
Im still deciding what kind of laptop to get atm... but I think that I can get the RAM cheaper on newegg and install it myself without any problems. (i think) Thanks for the Link Edan!
Get it from Newegg or some place other than the laptop manufacturer. They usually charge a premium for the same ram to install it for you.
as for installing the ram, at least in my laptop it was really easy. All I had to do was pop the keyboard off and right under it was where my RAM slots were
Most are under a panel on the bottom, but there are a few that are under the keyboard. I've seen Hard Drives the same way.
Ive been searching around and I'm trying to find out if the Alienware m15x has the RAM under the keyboard or is there a panel on the back? Does anyone know?
the alienware website under the support section actually has detailed pictures of how to replace things.. that's how I did mine.
Is this what you are looking for? (whoops, delete plz) next time, i dont post while running on 4 hours of sleep over 48 hours.
