Do you not find it too big? Do you play FPS much on it?

Ive been on 27" 1440p high refresh rate monitors for the past 4 years and I love them. But now with 4K coming around with good panels finally for cheap I just moved up to the setup I have been wanting for a very long time, a 40" monitor. I had tried it before many years ago with a 1080p display but took the monitor back within a few days because of how bad text looked and how big the pixels were. But now trying the setup out again with 4K makes everything great. The immersion is really good in all games, but if I am doing an FPS tournament I probably would switch back to my Acer AB270HU 27" monitor due to it's much higher refresh rate and one of the lowest input lag times of any monitor on the market. 27" is probably the largest I would go for competitive FPS gaming because any larger and you lose necessary information to your peripheral vision. Anything other than competitive FPS gaming and you cant really beat a 40" MVA panel monitor.

Been playing a lot of games on my New 3ds XL lately so guess you could count that as well :p

dual screens are not rally meant for gaming IMO. They are nice to throw stats up or other info on a second screen off to the side, but when used as a single image to play on it works terrible because you have a big black bar right in the middle of your view. Best to either play games one 1 monitor or 3.

As i think my sig. says, i rock 3x dell 23" 2312hm. Have had it for almost 4 years now, and i cant live without it. Normally i run 2x horizontally and 1x vertically. Unless i setup Eyefinity and run all 3 vertically as one big screen.

i tried a 30" 2560 x 1600 for alittle while, but ended up going back to the 3x 23" widescreens.

My current setup consists of 3xLG 23MP65's and while they are not really optimal for FPS gaming(kinda high input latency), they are cheap IPS displays with good colors for the price range and IPS grade viewing angles which matters a lot since in triple monitor setups the secondary diplays are hard to point directly at you without a huge gap in between them. So you either have them at a sub-optimal angle or you have a generally bit gap between the monitors themselves.

As far as widescreen gaming goes, I've had a terrible experience with it, from UI being downright awful, to games not even natively supporting it, so all in all a bad experience for me. The amount of space for applications to be open is amazing though and I think I would not be able to go back to less than at least 2 monitors.

If you want a low input latency PC gaming only monitor I can sell you my old Catleap 2B. It was one of the first good 1440p 27" monitors around and became famous for being one of the only monitors that could successfully overclock to 120Hz and beyond for the refresh rate. My monitor goes to 130Hz. It is a great monitor still, but I stopped using it because I moved on to better ones.

The cons about the monitor are that it only has a DVI input and no scaler, so no using it for TV or XBox or anything, just PC. The stand also sucks, kinda wobbly if you hit the desk.
Because of the single DVI input only, it has next to no input lag. So that with 120Hz is great for FPS gaming.

Otherwise, this is a nice monitor with a nice IPS panel screen and supports both HDMI and DVI inputs:

If you want to stay in 1080p to run at higher frames per second with lower end hardware then this is probably my favorite 1080p monitor:

Or if you want to spend a lot of money on the best you can get, go with the Acer XB270HU I posted earlier or other BenQ brand or ASUS brand monitors with 144Hz refresh rate and such.

Well, I lied. This one is actually the very best possible 1080p monitor you can get for gaming:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824136126&cm_re=FG2421-_-24-136-126-_-Product

If you plan to stick with the monitor for many years and you want 1080p for the higher framerate, you cant possibly beat that model. It uses a high end VA type panel with the best contrast ratios available anywhere outside OLED and plasma and is native 120Hz with black frame insertion to give a more CRT like 240Hz refresh rate.

But most people either cant or dont want to afford it. So if you want something cheaper, go with that awesome 27" Acer 1080p monitor I l;inked above. I have 4 of them at work and myself and everyone else loves them.

27 is quite the standard now, 1440p or 4k if you really want to go that way (i've heard of a 500ish 4k monitor ?)

There are a few of them now yes, but they all are pretty sucky. They use very cheap TN panels with horrible color reproduction and viewing angles. I have one here at work I got for $450 over a year ago. I dont mind the drawbacks at work because I simply use it for coding and need the extra res. For real computer use though I would never recommend one. LG is releasing a $600 4k monitor soon that looks very nice, it is actually using an LG IPS panel and supports Freesync and has both display port and HDMI 2.0 inputs. Probably the very best monitor you can possible get for $600 or less. It isnt quite out yet though, Id expect it within the next couple months.
