Enigma is correct ... all of my stuff somehow breaks within a year or two :) I have not enjoyed any SLI or XFire set ups I have done in the past. I am a big fan of the single best single card you can buy

wasn't talking about a sli or xfire... you should be able to use your titan X as the primary and you 780TI as phsyiX to pull some benches related directly to physics.

The physics cards do not have to be the same, where as SLI and Xfire they need to be the same GPU

I had it before ... physics card was useless just caused more heat

So really any high end GPU now a days doesn't really benefit from a dedicated physics? Sounds like a single Titan X will handle everything then.

Hm so ur titan X is around 40% better than the 780 TI ? Nice.

I have no idea when the 980 TI is supposed to be released anyway, probably in 4 months or so ?

I have built up over time from working here for 5 years a good amount of parts that I swap and use the warranty on. Say I buy a video card for 500 ... I buy a warranty that lets me return in 2 or 3 years for that same price back. Now my company does not say anything to me because I write up reviews and thoughts on all the products I buy and send out to the vendors. Keeps them off my back for abusing the ability :)

Also a lot of the parts I got open box / clearance. My case I bought for $40 off a friend same with the PSU. A lot of it has been bought returned over 5 years so. But yea this GPU is an ANIMAL!!!

Hm i have a dumb question due to my dilemna.

Unless u're Erock and can abuse everything related to computer parts :p, is it worth buying the Titan X at all considering i got a 780 TI and Pascal is supposed to be "extremely" more powerful than the current build ?

Also, Intel's going to bring their new architecture in and DDR4 is out, so it might be good to wait a year and get the a new rig altogether ?

There's the AMD R3 too but, well, drivers, drivers................. don't know how they manage to still screw that up considering the fact that they equip both X1 and PS4 ?

Everything is playable on 1440p atm, it's not perfect but it's still viable.

Depends what kind of GPU you have and your disposable income IMO. For me, Id upgrade to it if 1440p was not perfect. I have dual 980's already though so a single Titan X is not really an upgrade for me, and two Titans are just too much money. Im waiting till the big daddy Pascal comes out for my upgrade.
    You have a 780Ti right?

It also depends on what monitor you use. If you use 120 or 144 hz I would say its a nice upgrade at 1440p. It was a big upgrade from a 780 TI to a Titan X for sure (from my 980 not so much ) so the 780 would be even bigger of a leap. But if you do not play all the time PC games I would hold off. I am lucky I can abuse my work privileges a bit.

I still think a 980 is the sweet point for a card Titan X is a overkill for 1080p ... Perfect for 1440p and Just enough for 4k

BUT it all depends on your monitor can handle the higher FPS proper

BTW Erock, speaking of monitors Acer is shipping the XB270HU now (the one you are upgrading to). I got the notification yesterday that my monitor shipped. It might be listed in your system as UM.HB0AA.001

Very nice mr enigma. I have not checked this week. All I need to do is search 27" acer and it will pop up soon as we have it in distro ( on order )

96HZ you want 96 fps locked so a Titan X will def be an upgrade but is it worth it for you? That is a TON of money to lay out if you are getting that with a 780 now at the settings you enjoy

Well right now i can't reach 96FPS except in BF4 i think and, well, games that aren't demanding, like pillars of eternity :D

Thing is that the Titan is a lot of money indeed and it'd be dumb to throw it away when Pascal is supposed to be, at least, 3 to 4 times more powerful.

I dont think Pascal is supposed to be 3-4x more powerful, it is simply supposed to have as much as 3x more vram. Maybe Nvidia marketing said 3-4x more power, IDK, but I'd expect the big die Pascal chip to be roughly 2x more powerful as the Titan because Nvidia is moving almost 2 full process nodes down, which will give them a huge amount more space to add in more resources.

I forgot about that mixed precision thing, it could be a pretty good boost in gaming. Most of the performance gains over Titan X that were talked about were all scientific areas though, because Titan X and all Maxwell cards have severely handicapped double precision floating point performance, this was done to save power for the gaming cards and is why the Titan Z is still the Nvidia recommended card for those needing maximum DP FP performance. Pascal brings back that DP performance and adds the new mixed precision mode where it can do a lot of calculations in only 16-bit depth for a large performance boost when 32-bit and 64-bit depth is not needed. Since Pascal will excel in 16-bit precision mode that could be a very nice boost for gaming since at least 3/4 of gaming calculations are done in floating point these days. But still, that 10x number was mentioned only in regards to scientific calculations. That may or may not be 10x gaming performance boost. I wouldnt get your hopes up for that much.
