Need some help deciding what I should get, I have a pretty good idea of what I want. But, want some feedback.

    I am looking to buy...

8 gigs of RAM for >300
    GPU for >500
    PSU for >300

But really all under 1000 and the cheaper the better within reason. =P

    I am thinking of getting

What else are you powering that you need a 1000 Watt PS. The RAM is cool. And the video card is a beast. What size monitor are you running, cause the video card is probably overkill unless you have a 30" monitor.

Since it's TD, everything is overpriced.

An 1000-watt psu is pretty much a standard edition with top-o-the-line computers now-a-days. Sure I could get a 750 or something (already have that btw) or I can spring a few extra bucks for future upgrades. Since my mobo allows for sli, I can always buy another one and basically have the equvallency 4 gt's on my comouter. :D

8gigs seems like overkill on RAM but, my computer eats my current 4gigs.

My monitor is only 22" as anything above that is overkill IMO. xD More stress on the eyes. This particular graphics card works fine in lower resolutions, but have only seen benchmarks for 25" and 30". The GX 280 runs about the same, so I figured I would save myself $100.

Also, there is no such thing as overkill for a graphics card. :D

    cheaper than newegg =P

Still overpriced for over a grand. Better off going to the new Intel architecture.

For 1000 bucks you aren't really getting that good of an upgrade....especially in USD. I would look a little harder or wait a little longer.

If you sold your old pc and spent the 1000 bucks you could probably build an i7 based pc.

I thought about the ATI card, but im still not sure about them as of yet. My system is pure Nvidia and Intel so iono.

But the ATi card is in fact better, just not sure if I want it on my 780i EVGA mobo with my Quad Core Q6600. But, if it works flawlessly then perhaps I will consider using it instead.

yeah, but my PC is still pretty new and processors keep coming out every 6 months-1yr. My guess is that they will upgrade...again soon enough.

Would love to get it, but a bit out of my price range as it would cost me a bit more to use.

    If I am getting 8gigs...

Aren't you running a pretty good system already kyoji? q6600 and 8800gts or something?

While the 9800x2 is beastly card, its still 2 cards. Nvidia has the 260 216sp version, I haven't been keeping uptodate but my friend told me it was a decent card and great value at the price.

Just make sure you are getting a worthwhile upgrade imo.

you can buy a i7 940 based system from ibuypower for less than the parts total from newegg or tigerdirect. wierd. means there is a retail price premium on the new parts right now over bulk sales to manufacturers. i would wait for a while myself if you plan to part it out (build your own). the new "systems" are suppossed to use less power so 450W PSs are suppossed to be adequate again.

as an aside. the i7s require the X58 chipset which requires Three Channel DDR3. means that you have to put in 3 DIMMS at a time (3 x 1GB or 3 x 2GB etc.) Corsair has some new "kits". the 3x2 is $259 and the 3x1 is $159 at newegg. the asus p6 mobo has 6 DIMM slots.

the new asus p6 mobo supports THREE video cards in "triple sli" when using the nvidia 260 or 280s. (has 3 pci 16 slots)

I you went 3x SLI you would probably want a full tower just for the heat generated by all the video cards.

Your pc is still very powerful. I would suggest waiting until some i7 sales come your way. Any other upgrade just isn't a worthwhile investment.

If you upgrade from what you have, you should definitely get a new platform.

What about a Q9950 CPU upgrade and another video card. You'll probably see comparable benefit for the short term and can start saving for an i7 based system. Upgrades probably less than $500

    lol

Well if you really want an upgrade get an i7 mobo/processor and ram. Reuse everything else. When the time comes buy a new video card, or sell your old stuff and then buy a new vid card with that.

I haven't had time to read about which i7 products are best but those are reputable brands. Not sure what the overclocking situation is with i7's might wanna look it up and see if you should get an aftermarket cooler.
