ok so im putting together a New PC for those of you who dont know i live in Aus and get my prices from www.pricespy.com.au Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4GHz, LGA775, quad core: $215 Western Digital 640GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive : $89 2x 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 240pin : $85 now for graphics im not too sure, going to get a 8800GT most likely. Geforce 8800 GT, 512MB, PCI Express : $188 Mother boards once again not too certain what to go for, been looking mostly at the P35 chipset as i dont wanna spend too much money, any sugestions? Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P P35 : $149 For the case im not too worried just going for something thats big enough and has a niceish look to it. Cooler Master CM 690 Tower Case : $94.50 600 Watt PSU, atx : $22.00 For DVD either a nice cheap Samsung SH-S203 20x DVD writer, Sata : $25.00 Or a blue ray LiteOn DH-401S Blue-ray Reader, DVD Writer SATA : $159.00 and possibly windows vista home premium OEM : $115.00 And as for the screen i have a 19" widescreen Moniter already. So in total that comes to $887 Just so you know i havent had time to read up on new Technology thanks to end of semester exams so if theres anything new and cheapish(arround the same price range) let me know!
Hard Drive: Western Digital 640GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive or Western Digital 320GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive Samsung 750GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive These were released within the past year and offer some of the best performance around (closing in on the old raptors) and also extremely quiet. I've swapped all of my old drives to the new western digital one. Video Card: New Radeon 4850 has better performance and costs $199 (US price). Also, many places offer MIR from $10-$30 off. Don't know the situation down under though - may have to look around. Everything else looks pretty solid. I would go with a P45 since it's newer, but that's more a personal preference thing.
Im just going to say, get a different PSU, 22 USD for 600W just screams "I'm gonna fail and fuck up your pc!" Just get a Corsair PSU, sure they're more expensive but atleast those are reliable, and the efficiency is probably higher too.
P45 mobo that is crossfire, asus p5q or p5q-e is good. The 4850 and 4870 had heat issues but people already have work around using fan speed increase settings. Most people set it from 30-65% fan speed and idle temps are reportedly getting low as 45C now. No reason not to get a 4850 or 4870 now.
ok so for the mother board i could get Asustek P5Q Intel P45 ATX : $158 and for the graphics 4850: ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics card : $221 or 4870: ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB graphics card : $332 so im thinking id probobly go with the 4850, as long as its worth the higher price from the 8800GT which i was going to get
Sounds good. There are many versions of the P5Q. P5Q - Regular non crossfire version, the 24 pin power connector is placed in a bad spot but outside of that it is a solid board. P5Q Pro- Crossfire board P5Q-E - Crossfire board with some extra options and cooling Theres also P5Q Deluxe, but thats like 200+ dollars. I would go with Pro or E.
Why not the Samsung Spinpoint 1tb? Costs about €119,- here which is pretty sharp. Besides, the disk is quite and fast. CPU:Why not the C2D E8400? Quadcore is still not really widely adopted by games, except for Flight Sims. Besides, the E8400 is around €150,- which is cheaper. Mobo: Try settle for a board with X38 or X48 chipset. They work good and are not that expensive. Asus P5E is around for €150,- Graphics: Ati Radeon 4870. Nothing will get you more bang for your buck. Or the 4850, which is the high-end on midrange. Look here for a review. Case: Depends on your own estethics. I have the Cooler Master Stacker 831 because it's easy to work with and has lots of space. And I like the looks. PSU: For the love of peace, don't settle for a "well, this sounds like a good deal, cheap with lots of power". PSU's are one of the most overlooked parts of a pc. Remember, it has to give juice to all of your components, don't settle for cheap ass stuff. Go for Cooler Master, Corsair, Antec, Thermaltake, Enermax or Tagen. Memory: If you go for Vista, take at least 4gig. What kind of ram depends on your motherboard. DDR2, DDR3, 800mhz, 1066mhz etc. Try to match it, no use having a set of 8gig ultra fast DDR3-2000mhz ram but a mobo that is way to slow.
Cheap psu tend to fail and are loud. Corsair and mushkin are very reliable companies. Most of them use rebranded seasonic PSU cores though so not much of a difference. I'm getting a corsair 650w.
Definately, just gotta get the cash with me back over to aus, my only wish is that the NZ dollar would suddenly rise dramaticly so i didnt lose a couple hundred on the currency changing.
Oh comon, I have very similar specs and I'm loving my EVGA 780i mobo for like $240. It supports 2-way sli (technically 3-way but you won't have enough room).
