That layout hurts my eyes. On a side note; we can't give feedback if we don't know what the purpose of the rig is for.
MSI GT70 DominatorPro-888 : Gaming RIG mainly FPS sorry about the format, copied to notepad then into forums to remove any off formating from the retail site.
That's a fuckton of money. Besides that...White glove Packaging? Where are you buying this from? Why not get a stock one from Amazon or whatever?
True dat, got a 35k bonus from work plus an insurance check due to hit my bank for 8K so no biggie *lol*
1. I would never recommend a gaming laptop over a desktop. They have terrible support/drivers, heat issues, and limit lifetimes. 2. If you don't care about it being all "fancy" then start with a barebones MSI and customize it yourself. I did a quick mockup of the example one and it came out minus $100-300. http://www.avadirect.com/gaming-laptop-configurator.asp?PRID=29469 3. The raid SSD is stupid. Get a small ssd to put the OS on/critical programs (photoshop) and everything gaming wise goes on the TB drive.
Price does seem steep, but went with https://www.xoticpc.com/ due to good service and reviews from a few friends.
I agree, but due to my current relocation situation a desktop will not be wise. My desktop will not be here until late June or early July. Going rebuild the RAID for redundancy not performance, it will only contain the OS all games / software will be installed on the 1TB[/QUOTE]
For a laptop it is probably the best of the best, but you better expect to be plugged in at all times during usage even if not gaming. For an actual gaming machine, a laptop sucks. For that amount of money you could get a WAY better desktop PC. At least twice as good as that laptop.
If possible, you should try to get upgraded TIM in it. Intel is known to not use very good stuff in most of their processors right now. Temps can be lowered by about 10 degrees just changing the TIM out.
Well it says this: Thermal Compound Stock OEM Thermal Compound So I imagine there should be an option for something better. With these specs, I would hope they have Coolabratory Liquid Pro or Ultra. Ultra will last longer but is harder to apply. Pro is easier to apply and I *think* is also not electrically conductive, but will dry out after 3-4 years. I don't know if this laptop will last longer than that anyway though with these specs and the power and heat going through the inside of this thing, so maybe using Pro wont be an issue. Also, you might see about saving money by dropping down to 16GB of RAM instead with two 8GB sticks. The performance will be a hair faster and you wont even need that much memory still. 32GB on a laptop is just a complete waste.
Will do, fired an e-mail off to sales. Also asked about any additional case , CPU and GPU cooling options that may be available.
Upgraded to: IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU (Cools better than all Compounds) COPPER COOLING UPGRADE - Extra Cooling Copper Heatsinks Applied to the Heatsink/Heatpipes Downgraded to: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-Y428P] (Dual Channel Memory (2x8GB SODIMMS))
Alright cool. Everything else looks good to me. The only thing I would wonder about is if you actually care about the 2nd monitor that connects through USB. The resolution is a bit low but it might be good for having a webpage open to the side of your game, or maybe a media player or something. But it cant actually be used for gaming and I dont know how well videos will play on it when connected through USB. Money doesnt seem to be an issue at all with this so maybe it would be fun to have.
Correct the USB Monitor will be utilized for iTunes, TS and other services I want to keep an eye on while playing games.
I know this goes without saying but get a good labtop cooling pad. It will really help with keeping your temps down to a more reasonable level and help the hardware last longer.
