Well my original G15's numpad finally died last week. I am so sad to let my old trusty keyboard go. I don't even remember how years I had used it but it was a LONG time. It was a sad day. So... I pick up the G710+ and all I can say is WOW. This thing feels amazing! The key presses are very crisp. The keyboard has some weight and rubber feet on it so it does not slide around the desk when you are really going at it in a game. I wondered why the keyboard needed 2 usb ports but then I found the backlight. The back light has 3 settings nuclear, my eyes, and just right. There is something intangibly good about this thing. I hope it servers me as many years as my old G15. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126299
Really funny you mention this Que I'm almost literally in the same boat. My g15 isn't dead but the keypad has most of the keys as clear blue at this point and even I can't always touch type switching from stick to keyboard. *I'm getting to be an old duck.* So I am looking at a new keyboard, I just ordered the roccat MK Pro. I was thinking of the 710+ but I wanted all my keys to light up damn it
I've never used the G## Keyboards, or anything logitec for that matter, but I've heard good things and the one I use is on the way out. I use this: link and I love the Cherry MX Red keys. What are the bonuses of the G## keyboard? Why do you recommend it?
All of the keys do light up. There are 2 back light buttons. One for the WASD keys and one for the rest.
I replaced by old G15 keyboard with this one recently. How is it on its way out? You can just replace the Cherry MX Red keys (super easy). The advantage of the G15 is the extra screen (which I never used) and the extra G row (which I never used as well). Edit: The extra screen is nice for displaying the time, but I have a clock beside my computer now so that is fairly moot.
The g15 was one of the first gaming keyboards had an lcd to report information on your system or game, and a set of macrokeys. That said it was domeswitches. At this point I've had it for like 10 years which is the only reason I'm replacing it. I was looking at the k95 but as I said went with the roccat with brown switches, however it hasn't arrived yet.
It is actually pretty easy, and I can order griped key tops as well. Fancy, we'll see if I'm up to not be lazy about it though hah. Can the Logitec do the same? Are the few extra side hotkeys worth the cost? As far as lighting, the K70 only goes nuclear red. @DeadDuck I use the Roccat Kone XTD and before this I had never used their products, beware the software! The mouse at least came with a program that keeps track of my hotkey mapping and coloring and whatnot, but it also kept track of click count and scroll count and all that stuff, and while in the dark playing Amnesia a loud, raspy voice yelled "ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!" and I shat. Apparently after 5,000, 10,000, and so on clicks you get an achievement, and it tells you. So beware. Scared the shit out of me. Love the mouse though.
That keyboard is going to last you a stupidly long time. Mechanical keys are amazing. I personally use Cherry MX Blues. Browns are the same thing but they don't have the wodnerful clicky sound.
late to the game on this post, but to anyone still following, I have the newer razer mechanical with their "in-house" keyswitches. It's pretty excellent. Solid recommend for a lightup gaming-centric mechanical keyboard.
I replaced my original G15 with a CMStorm Quickfire Mx (without a numpad). It works for me, and it's great having all the free real estate around my desk. It also closes the distance between my arms/hands. My G15 is still alive and well, I just wanted something different.
Well the G19 Keyboard is great for some FPS games and MMO's. Also it has a TS integration that allows you to switch ch and see who is talking from the keyboard. Its also kinda useful in LoL if you are a person that monitors your CS and all that jaz. The extra keys I have not really got into since I really dont have to use the macro system since I play class's that you really dont need to use them or I use the simple in game macro
I didn't know it had TS integration. I use 2 monitors, so that's never been an issue before, TS is always up on the second monitor. It's good to know though. Thanks, bud.
Ya meant to point out if you have a 2nd monitor it wouldnt matter lol. Also it has some sort of WoW integration and I think some of the popular FPS integration in it. Not sure what will pop up on your screen but it has something for the games. Also you can watch youtube and so some news surfing on it if you busy in a match to lol, but I would suggest not to do that but again since you have a 2nd monitor wouldnt really matter. I like it also since it is a mechanical keyboard and has extra opinions that it offers if I choose to use them. Like I do love the 2 fast USB ports it has on the back side and the spacing of the keys along with it able to detect some games when I launch it (if they are one of the games it supports) the keyboard would change colors and its key layouts to what ever I set it up as then switch back to the default layout or to the new game I pick once the other game is closed
Well that is nifty. I like that, I use a Tartarus gamepad for some games and not others. It sounds beneficial that it smart changes like that.
Love my G710+ so much. I've been waiting forever for Logitech to release a Mechanical keyboard because I'm a huge Logitech fanboy. My Corsair with the Cherry MX Reds was ok, but I missed the tactile feel and the Logitech has that but also has special dampeners to keep it from being to noisy. Love logitech so much! They're usually not the first to jump on new things, but they usually do it the best I did the same thing for my mouse.... patiently used my Naga (Which I hated but was addicted to having all the added buttons) until Ligitech finally released the G600. Switched and never looked back!
So I just got my Roccat board and I have to say so far I'm loving the feel of it, I haven't set up any of its real features yet but the brown cherry keys are perfect for feel and sound so far.
