    Hey guys,

For a quick background the next big game I am interested in is Star Citizen. This build will not be final for Star Citizen but I just want something that will be able to reasonably participate in the Dog Fighting Module which will be released in the next 2-3 months most likely.

    Current Build

I already have a great deal on 16 GB of RAM from a friend so I will be upgrading that. I am also thinking of replacing the GTX 560 TI with a GTX 770 (one of the 4GB VRam versions) and overclocking the CPU.

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a CPU cooler that will allow me to push the 2500k to somewhere over 4.0 GHz in a stable manner with the setup I have here? Is there anything else I need to watch out for with my current build before considering overclocking?

This Computer will eventually go to my fiance as I will be building a whole new computer for Star Citizen. I plan to wait a bit on building this second PC because I am interested in the new 1150 CPU that are coming out this year and will probably choose a final GPU when the game is closer to release.

    Thanks in advance,
    Regis

All these will do fine on your CPU, just depends on price. The list is cheapest to most expensive.

    CM Hyper 212 evo
Enermax ETS-T40-TB (Enigma owns + likes it)
    NZXT havik 140
Silverstone Heligon HE-01 (Memory clearance conscious)
    Noctua NHD-14

Single fan closed-loop-coolers will also do the job.

    Overclock away.

GTX 770 is a good card. You'll see some good performance gains going that route. If you have plans of SLI in the future shy away from niche versions of cards (gtx 670 4gb superclocked).

    I have an i7 2600k and it's running at 4.5. Get a corsair h100i.

You cant push it any further Dag? Seems like overkill on the cooling compared to the speed reached. I realize all CPUs are different so maybe yours just needs that kind of cooling, but it seems like an anomaly to me.
Erock has an i5 2500K with a CM Hyper 212+ and he runs at 4.5GHz too I believe. the 2600K usually runs 5 or so degrees hotter than its non hyper-threading little brother though.

I believe you were the one who told me any further wasn't a good idea. I'm no overclock genius so I'd rather not blow my PC up but if you think it can go faster…
I'll try upping it 100mhz at a time after ps2 finishes updating.
Edit 2 Holy shit the fastest stable water OC from OC.net is 5.86(!) guess I've got a ways to go.

IDK, I might have been the one who told you that. I dont remember the specifics of your situation so maybe if I did say that I must have had a good reason. Or I made a mistake. That's always a possibility. lol

Anyway, on the current discussion I think Ryld covered just about everything on suggestions. If OP is trying to stay as cheap as possible and just go for an average OC then I think the Enermax ETS-T40-TB is the best price/gains ratio

Thanks for all of the guys. For the cooler I am looking for a moderate over clock like enigma said so looks like that cooler is the winner. I may decide to SLI the card I get in the future. Is 770 still a good choice with this in mind or should I go 760/780?

780Ti if you can afford it. 780 is fine too.

I got the 770 cause my budget and it does well.

I love my 780 ti ... gonna work on the OC for it tomorrow a bit I think

I was gonna SLI 780 but enigma talked me into a single more powerful GPU which is what i would suggest !!!
