Im just wondering how many people actually preordered, or plan to preorder a next gen console. Which console they ordered and their reasons behind it.

I primarily was a console player till around December last year when i gave up playing my xbox 360, i built my current rig to play planetside and i have been really happy with my decision. But at the end of the day i still enjoy the console atmosphere with friends etc.

I was planning to preorder a next gen xbox till i saw microsoft's plans and the forced kinect option so i ended up looking more into the ps4 camp. Put simply I was won over by the new controller, which i have tried and is amazing, playstation plus and the overall approach of Sony.

TLDR: i preordered ps4 what about your guys?

I'll get a PS4 eventually when there are at least 10 games I want to play on it. I bought a ps2 and a ps3 on day one and both of them mostly collected dust for a year or more, I'll just wait this time.

I pre-ordered myself a PS4 ages ago, off of Amazon. I'm a little bummed out that Watch Dogs got delayed, so I won't have that to play at launch.
Ah well, I guess that's all in favour of Ubisoft then, since I'm looking forward to AC IV more and more, despite being extremely disappointed in AC III.

Hopefully, it won't be too long before I get some other fun little games to play on it.

I considered cancelling and just playing ACIV on the PC, but it may be a long time before I actually have money to throw at a console again, so I decided against it.
Besides, the sole purpose for my PS4 is to play Dark Souls II. And possibly Deep Down. Other games are just cherries on top. :3

Had PS4 pre-ordered but cancelled a few months back. Should have just put it on Ebay and resold it on launch sadly. Oh well. I will still be getting one if either Infamous Second Son or Destiny has a hardware bundle. And I believe it was confirmed that Destiny would have a hardware bundle for PS4 rather than XB1

    Neither.

No games catching my interest on either platform.

In other news, I got myself a Vita for playing Dragon's Crown, Gravity Rush, Valkyria chronicles 2 and 3 (in japanese), and to be ready for Phantasy Star Nova in 2014 (new phantasy star game, sega asked Tri-Ace from Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean fame, to make it.)

An actual Phantasy Star game? Or another shitty repetitive dungeon crawl "action" game with the Phantasy Star title slapped on it?

    PS4. Xbox One = a disaster.

I typically only use my console when I have friends over. Although I'm not really excited about any of the launch titles, I'm still getting one because every gamer needs a console to play with friends, unless you don't do the whole friends thing.

Well, at least it's not a phantasy star universe shitty repetitive action game.
And I like action games made by Tri-Ace (Star Ocean, Resonance of Fate)

I've decided to go with neither for now, cancelling both preorders. Division, Destiny, Titanfall, and Watch Dogs are all coming to PC. I might get the Xbox One next year for Halo, but right now the PS4 lacks any exclusive title that interests me.

I'm just all-ining on Star Citizen.

I doubt Destiny will come to PC any time soon unless there is a HUGE market push for port. Considering the amount of other games from Bungie that never received ports I wouldn't hold my breath.

Maybe I ask how is the X1 a disaster? Since one can simply say PS4 is one also

Disaster is, for the moment, an exaggeration. Time will tell.
Some of the reasons are :
    • X1 has 50% less graphics cores than PS4 (they both have AMD GCN architecture)
    • X1 is $100 more expensive
    • X1 has the always on kinect spying, er .. listening on you.
    • Microsoft has tried to force very unpopular measures on gamers, only to backpedal against growing discontent. Has generated ill will against the product.
    • X1 totally neglects the japanese market for launch. And you can't use an X1 in a country not officially supported.

PC master race, no way in hell I'm throwing money into a console that will be already less powerful than my current PC, and the only exclusive I care about is MGS5, not enough to make me buy a console.

The cores wont really matter that much until the end of the generation. The main issue is that XBox uses DDR3 memory which will starve the graphics cores quite a bit, whereas PS4 has GDDR5 that can provide proper bandwidth. The XBox One tries to hide this bandwidth problem by using a small cache (32MB) of esRAM that has huge bandwidth and is used to help geometry calculations and such. The way Microsoft quotes their memory bandwidth they tell you the combined esram + ddr3 ram bandwidth, which technically comes out to more than PS4, but only in the marketing department. Real X1 bandwidth is 68.3GB/s, PS4 bandwidth is 176GB/s. I cant remember the exact number from when I calculated it, but the XBox needs something around 90-100GB/s of bandwidth to not starve the cores. If the developers code perfectly then the performance hit can be mitigated for the most part because of esRAM, but the XBox One will still have problems running full 1080p with texture resolution and such. Which is probably why you will see internal rendering resolution closer to half res like in most games launching with the console and then upscaling afterwards. PS4 will actually be able to render in full 1080p well enough.

You know it is already a disaster when CoD Ghost is being upscaled on Xbone because it can't keep constant 60 frames.
