The kickstarter page will say it better than I can. Crowd funded RvR focused game (so DAoC but just focused on the RvR lakes). Think of it as a re-imagining of DAoC with modern technology.

Edit: Tri-Realm since RvR is copyrighted.

Never heard of camelot unchained, even tho i'm looking here and there on gaming and mmo websites ? Who develops it ? DAOC pvp was fun but it wasn't that great either... I liked it very much back in the days but i dunno if i'd still like it today.

On the paper GW2 pvp was groundbreaking, especially the WvWvW but now, nobody play it...

GW2 PvP is a water down version of GW1 which creates bile in my mouth. WvWvW is basically a decent (maybe even good) version of what a modern DAoC game would play like.

Camelot Unchained is being developed by City State Entertainment which is headed by Mark Jacobs.

What made RvR good was, teamwork and knowing your role. It wasn't like GW2 where everyone spams available skills with a dodge thrown in. Tanks had to protect the casters and healers, healers had to stay in range of tanks, tanks had to not over extend. Debuffs, buff sheers, mezz, roots, stun... thinking on your feet.

I might pick up CU when it launches.

GW2 PvP isn't even worth mentioning in the same breath as GW. The tPvP is bad, the WvW is worse, and the population is gone. I don't think I have ever been more disappointed in a game. Perhaps GW set the bar too high and was too hard an act to follow. NC Soft and Arenanet really know how to alienate a hardcore fan base. The sold 3 million + copies of a game that had a following mainly due to the PvP in its predecessor, and then launched it with shitty, incomplete PvP despite promising continued excellence. Epic Fail!

Now that I have vented... A game that is actually going to focus on PvP elements will be refreshing. Hopefully they can launch it in a functioning state unlike other dev companys.

Well it's not like any mmorpg had great pvp either (so far). The most fun i had was probably in SWG and in EQ2 on the PVP server (nagafen), had some pristine moments in DAOC too having 40 people hidden behind a single tree with one healer outside as bait.

DAOC was fun, but it was ultra unbalanced. As Hibernia we could take out 50+ people with a single hunting group, easily. Bards chain mez, champions skewered em with spears, as a warden i protected / mezzed too. It's the only game where we had to hide our guild color because otherwise people would just instant leave the RVR zone, running away scared (it was bright yellow and purple too so, easy to spot...).

Wasn't WAR done by the same guys than DAOC in any case ? Mark Jacobs had retired prior to it ? Because WAR had interesting ideas but it was really poorly executed...

I hope that with CU they'll be able to make a good pvp balanced game, good graphics, good gameplay, good netcode, no lag, aiming & dynamic combat would be very nice but not everyone like it. In any case it's 2014-2015...

What made DAoC RvR good, wasn't that it was rock, paper, scissors balanced. What made the RvR good is that player skill was the balancing factor. To be the best in RvR you had to min/max, push the limits of your class, and then execute close to 100% efficiency, to truly be known as the best. There wasn't a Wiki or a How-To on how to 8-man RvR, it was something that was learned.

The PvP in GW is to date unmatched in quality by anything else in the genre. It was perhaps a bit too inaccessible to the masses, but it was great game play. I agree though, the genre seriously lacks solid PvP titles on a consistent basis.

Active aiming would be so awesome. I don't understand why titles in this basket so rarely design combat for skill based play. If we could just get a game with active play and skill shots rather than pooping out minions and building for passive bonuses that would be enough to get my money to at least try it.
