I just saw Quarantine. For those who dont know, its a horror film done by the directors of Cloverfield, and is done in a similar manner. edit: It wasnt done by those makers apparently. I was misinformed but you could've fooled me. The beginning was interesting, a very amusing start for a horror film. After that, I found the movie largely predictable (of course, I'm going into and English major so I'm used to over analyzing shit, so I was thinking about what was happening next as opposed to being stuck 'in the now'). It, of course, had cheesy horror film parts, but there were less than most which was nice. It was relatively well done and was enjoyable. This is quite a good thing coming from me, since I hate horror films. [horror film rant] Its not because they are scary, because ironically enough, I dont find them frightening at all... They just make the movie very tense and then scare the crap out of you with volume jumps. Only once did I jump during the movie, and that was because what happened was entirely unexpected. [/rant] Anyway, I would recommend going to see this. If you dont over analyze things like me, you will likely enjoy the movie. HOWEVER; If you have problems with motion sickness don't go see it, since its done through the point of view of a camera.
i have a question, do you get to see the demon/monster/whatever in the film like you did in cloverfield? cause i like to see what it is
If you are at all sensitive to camera jiggling or focus, I'd advise you to watch it on a much smaller screen or not at all. Nearly 30% of the film's length is produced out of focus, an effect that lends itself to bolstering the "filmed on site" feel of the movie. It, however, does not lend itself to being at all right in the optic nerve.
What are you talking about? It's not a "monster" movie; it's a "zombie-style" flick if anything. The movie is like a Resident Evil type thing where people get infected with a virus and go nuts.
Yeah, and a dude drills another dude in the head. It's pretty cool, when you can see it and not want to puke (not due to gore, but due to this horrible new trend in filming).
wrong resident evil they were zombies this is more of a 28 days later movie....basicly I didnt like the movie they failed at doing the same style cloverfield was..... see cloverfiel pulled that cammra style off WAY better it switch from movie mode to vidcam mode which was a nice touch, this film did most the action part in cam mode and it sucked. this movie could been alot better to me and it had the same ending as clover field kinda odd
Still made me want to puke... I'd almost kill for a good horror movie that DIDN'T include this new-fangled camera jiggle nonsense. And don't even include Saw (any of them) in the list of GOOD horror films...
I am a horror nut, but even I ave to admit, 90% of all horror movies suck ass. Overused plots, things that make zero sense or is just plain stupid. The best bet for horror is to go independant or the Asian horror is pretty good, mostly. But even that you have to be careful, cause you could end up with just plain weird, or seriously disterbing in bad ways as well. Dependant on your tastes, there is gore-porn (not my fav), psychological horror (which has some really chilling movies, but not really scary) comedy horror (has some great classics and modern awesomeness) and many more. Some I would reccomend: Ginger Snaps: This film uses werewolfism as a metaphor for puberty, and the sigma of social classism in High School. Sounds stupid on the surface, but this is a well done independant film and is rated in the 90's on Rotte Tomatoes. Ginger Snaps 2: Continues the story, this time using drugs and addiction as the metaphor. There is some really bizzare stuff in the end, but it is also a great little film. AVOID GINGER SNAPS 3, IT IS A WHOLE OF A MOVIE. Wolf Creek: Based on a true story about a group of kids in Australia, it leaves more to the imagination than shows which makes it very very good. The Decent: I actually found myself really liking this movie, it took some great risks and though I didn't realloy like the ending, found it a really good watch. Audition: This is a great and disturbing Asian Horror film by Takashi Miikey, as a matter of fact anything by Takashi Miike is pretty damn chilling. I don't likie everything about this movie, but his films are very very disturbing. Hardcandy: Though I wouldn't really call this a horror movie, more of a revenge tale, it is very disturbing and almost gore-porn, but it redeems itself by the end and makes a great little movie. American Werewolf in London: A classic movie, the first to use onscreen special effects for tranformation, this is one of the best horror-comedies out there. The Thing: Classic Action Horror, also a bit gross with great special effects. One of the best films John Carpenter ever did. Fright Night: This is cheesy fun, like Scream about a Vampire that moves in next door to a teenager that waches old horror movies and knows what his neighbor really is. Hour of the Wolf: This is a Bergman film that stars Max Von Sydow. It's more a psychological horror than anything else. It's basically the stry of one mans decent into madness. It is very Lovecraftian in it's pacing and very good. There are a ton more, some classics, some newer. But that should give a sampling of better horror that is out there.
