Some of these I am sure we all have heard before, though the ones that seem to interest me are Firefall, Blade n Soul, Elfer Scrolls, Arch Age, Dragon's Prophet, and PSOnline 2
Going to be another terrible year for mmos. Let's hope Defiance is above mediocre and gives me something to play.
You can play firefall now. You just have to pay $20 for a founder status to get instant beta access. You can play Warface now (the russian version btw) its pretty fun...PSO 2 is fun hands down..played the JP version, but anxiously waiting the NA version...possiblily in Feb. Blade and Soul...another Tera...but fun and something new with its battle system. Atomix has a private server of B&S if you wanna get a feel for the game....but 2013 does look promising. PSO 2: http://forums.sega.com/forumdisplay.php?323-PSO2-(West) / http://www.pso2.com/us/ Blade and Soul: http://us.bladeandsoul.com/en/ Firefall: http://www.firefallthegame.com/ Warface: http://www.warface.com/ WildStar:http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/
Blade & Soul is not really like Tera more like GW2 or AION just less tab targeting feel Now Wild Star I'm wondering how it will play out BC that's more like Tera in away with its non tab targeting system..... but being ran by NcSoft and I have a feeling B&S will be like Aion
Considering Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn is a totaly new MMO, it should be on this list. yeah that's right people, it's not a patch, it's a total rebuild.
Are you high? There are several games on that list that have potential. ArchAge is probably the most promising with Elder Scrolls coming in second. Granted some people are tired of the atypical fantasy genres but I for one love them. TBH magic and swords are just cooler than pistols and starships. Perhaps a Halo Online would be perfect, but meh. Blade and Soul also seems nice. Granted it is probably similar to TERA so if you didn't like TERA I doubt you will like B&S but, all the groundbreaking MMOs are coming from Korea so you will just have to deal with the Anime graphics. My list would be: ArchAge - the ULTIMATE game in sandbox, customization, and creativity. I was waiting for this even before TERA came out. Elder Scrolls - while the PvP might suck due to the lore fanboys, the storyline and graphics as well as the animation/design seem to be top notch Blade and Soul - a poor mans ArchAge. It will probably come out before ArchAge and focuses on action combat more than customization and sandbox, but has some very solid world PvP. Firefall - this is last because we already have PS2, but could be worth a look. People will never be happy. TERA for example had a ton of sandbox elements, vivid graphics and art, an awesome combat system, a dungeons system that was difficult and challenging and a large emphasis on world PvP. But, people cried that there wasn't enough to do or there wasn't an endgame. Granted I do think a game should come with more endgame than TERA did but at some point we are going to have to stop expecting this on release. Apparently it is impossible for developers to add proper endgame content on release. RIFT is another game that had a lot of potential that was squandered by everyone not having their cake and icecream. I fear PS2 will be next on that list.
looks like shit Archage looks to be the best elder scrolls will be pushed back to 2014 rest look like shit just like the last 20 mmos to come out genre is crap for years now
ESO should be interesting, purely from a lore perspective. I figure I'll spend two or three months on that, and see how it goes from there. The PvP system sounds like a good idea but who knows if combat will be any good. Neverwinter had some way to build your own content last I heard. That in itself would be worth checking out, so long as it's free - but I don't expect it to be a good game, and therefore haven't been paying much attention. Aside from that, the other MMOs that I have any interest in came out last year. PS2 is cool and GW2 needs work but isn't too far off.
I'll keep an eye on MMOs and play any that are decent, but I am kind of sick of the Genre, it would have to be something ground breakingly new. I'm sick of the 1 month to cap then no end game fun games of 2012, and PS2 seems like it will hold my attention for a while yet.
As a side note, Blade & Soul is a themepark, not a sandbox. Personal List: FFXIV - Return to a traditional PvE focused MMO. Generally speaking MMO PvP is shallow and shitty, everything after a couple(DAOC, RO, RF, EVE) have been nothing but boring as hell. And you know, if I wanted to play decent PvP I would just go play Starcraft or Dota. Planetside 1 or Planetside:Next announcement - If SOE ever gets off their fat asses and make this game F2P I would be back in an instant. PS2 fails to capture the same moments, or depth, and I am willing to sacrifice modern gunplay for the much greater option of the first game. Even better is they mentioned that it wouldn't be completely unrealistic to port the game into Forgelight. I would really like to have Planetside back rather than the tarnished stain that sits on it now. Neverwinter - I am a sucker for D&D games, and the user generated content should be a fun way to keep dungeon crawling. No big hopes, but I will play it. Archage - We MIGHT see this, but it really depends who is going to be the publisher. In good news, the game has already been translated into English. Edit: Oh and it case anyone has forgotten. It is highly likely Titan is going to be revealed this year, which means Blizzard is going to have a new MMO on the market. Pew pew. Second Edit: 2013 can't be any worst than 2012. Which was most likely the worst year of gaming I have ever had to sit through.
Marvel Heroes Online should be a good diablo mmorpg, especially since Brevik is makin it. With spring release, they got my attention. ESO - if done right should be good, but i have the feeling its gonna be another "1 month stand" mmo. NWN - Same as ESO. FFXIV - hope they don't mess this one up. Planning to give it a shot at release. Archeage - looks very promising. Just hope it won't take em 3 years to get it to western market.
I was excited for Marvels Heroes but then I got an email from them asking for 200 dollars the the whole collection. Apparently you have to pay $20 for every character you want to unlock.
Ill be bringing my face back for Archage. Hopefully there will be plenty of arrows. Maybe BnS. See u bishes soon_@:
The problem I've found is games look to be good... But then are shit when released. GW2 looked great, had a lot of hype... Was complete shit, so was Tera and numerous other MMO's. Haven't really looked at any games other than Tera going f2p along with FFXIV ARR! I'm sick of waiting for games, and being disappointed when it's released. About Tera, it's a decent game on a f2p model, but isn't good enough for a subscription based game.
Tera would have been decent with some exclusive high end drops coming from open world warfare/castle sieges/along with battlegrounds being far more fleshed out. I also feel like the section of classes in the game while decent, but underwhelming for how good the combat system is. On top of mishandling the warrior into a DPS/Tank Hybrid rather than creating new and interesting classes.
Guild Wars 2 was the first time I've actually been hyped up about an MMO before launch. It's the first time I've played any MMO on launch. I've been told by many people that, as MMO launches go, it was very good launch. So when I think about the launch issues that did occur, how quickly player numbers dropped and the nasty surprises from ANET I have to ask: Why should I take part in any MMO launch again ? If I'm going to be playing an MMO, it's for the long haul. So why shouldn't I wait a few months to see how well the MMO can handle the long term before spending my time on the game ? Especially when talking about a sandbox game, where how the community develops is important and much harder to predict. PvE isn't really any better. The massively multiplayer part jacks up the resources the game needs on both the server and client, which means the rest of the combat needs to be simplified to keep it running adequately on the hardware available*. So any content that only has a small number of players is going to be lackluster in compassion to non-MMOs because that's the tradeoff that an MMO requires. The only things MMOs can do better than other games are things those other games can't and/or don't do. But those things often make the tradeoff worse. Take a battle involving a large number of players as an example. Most MMO's restrict the number of players that can be in one place via server/zone population limits. Eve Online is the one exception that comes to mind. It's nearly 10 years old and the only reason the servers can handle the load of the battles that take place is because, when there are too many people in one system for the servers to handle, they slow down the passage of time in that system until the servers can handle it. *The only mitigating factor is that we are nearing the end of a long console generation. Because many games are made for consoles first, and PC hardware has kept advancing while console hardware has not, less of a tradeoff needs to be made for PC MMOs. So the gap between MMOs and non-MMOs has closed a bit. It's going to open again with the next generation of consoles, especially if console manufacturers allow console MMOs to exist.
