All in all you made a huge rant for no damn reason bc you ASSUMED I was talking about the 1st FF online, and yes no matter how you wanna spin it FFXIV did go f2p very fast and shut down very fast do to the game being crap and them not able to fix it. You judt wanna argue that im wrong due to me not being technical and adding the EXACT dates. Everything that happened to FFXIV was consider fast by the MMO world... Look at Tera took them 2yrs to go F2P in Korea and took AION 3 yrs for NA/EU and people still say thats pretty fast

About the SE comment lol, I find them to be one of the worst game companys out there, yes SWG fans do blame SE for the fall of that game, SE rushed out the release of Vanguard that flopped due to all its bugs and other issues ( sounds like some other games) and for that one PS online cant remember its name but it was sooooo incomplete the NPC where just red, blue, green and yellow shapes for the longest and single player mode was so laggy and buggy also. So SE is meh in my book same for NcSoft but to me NcSoft games are way better just they suck in the CS department and that NcKorea can give craps about NA/EU players

FFXIV did arguably go F2P in the fact that they chose to suspend subscription costs until the game wasn't a total pile of chocobo poop... which at launch it really was. I will argue and contend that the game did not "shut down" which will be the point I think Owain is contesting as the game continued to run and receive content updates and fixes in the interim until a point at which the general populace, while still not feeling the game was up to snuff, at least was willing to start paying sub fee's for the content provided. This is something on the order of nearly a year past it's launch point. FFXIV:ARR is basically 2.0 of the original game, rebuilt from the game up because Yoshi-P the guy put in charge basically looked at what they had and said it was a giant load of Chocobo shit and wasn't going to put up with that kind of crap.


So in summary:

FFXIV did go F2P for a long period of time immedately after launch
FFXIV did not get shut down
FFXIV:ARR is 2.0 version of FFXIV
FFXIV:ARR is gonna be awesome

Not to mention no one assumed anything. FFXIV and ARR IS the same game and in not clarifying that in the beginning, it looked like as you were speaking of Square Enix's other Final Fantasy MMO which is FFXI. It was not assumption it was just worded in a way that can confuse most people who have played both games.

On another note some Alpha players have been joking at the fact that Yoshi-P is giving the previous director a massive slap in the face after seeing some of the changes being the direct opposite of they system the previous guy had set up.

They dont O.O .... then Sazh will have some serious issues with his hair.

Yea that is a video the released shortly after the close of Alpha. I didnt post it because it has been causing too much confusions. Its a poorly executed dungeons show casing an incomplete dungeon, nerfed content, etc. They only show 3 classes with the Dragoon pretending to be a tank not to mention level 20's wearing AF gear. Keep in mind that this was just to show what players were doing during Alpha. It does not show what will be when released.

 

Which isn't to say it doesn't show off the new game engine very very nicely... which is does

Yes but the last few I saw were them showing off the new zones.

The game looks gorgeous, despite anything else.

Unfortunately I never bought FFO, I really wish I did, I will more than likely buy this one when it is released, I have been looking for a new MMO that delivers as expected since I bought SWTOR on release and was really disappointed.. Put me down as will play, well, unless the beta feedback is really that terrible.
