Alright guys I'm not sure if I should wait till after this year is over or go ahead and pull the trigger and buy a new gpu. I currently have a gtx560 ti I was looking into gettinga 7870. I'm not sure if there will be new hardware in a couple of months that will make the 7870 cheaper. What do you guys think? wait or go for it, trying not to spend more then 300 dollars if its 325 then that's fine.
There will be new hardware in a few more months. Originally the 8xxx series was due out by now but it was pushed back. Nvidia's next cards were also pushed back some. I would expect the next gen within 3-6 months though. Does the 7870 really perform well enough to justify its cost over what you have? Seems like a better idea is to wait till next gen and buy a much better card. Just saying.... http://www.techpowerup.com/mobile/1...-quot-Sea-Islands-quot-Launch-to-2Q-2013.html
Thank you Enigma, kind of figured it'd be better to wait I just dont want the new gpu to cost an arm and a leg. Also, are there typically problems with gpus when they first launch? like optimization and such or certain games not being compatible. Also I'm not really partial to any brand. Just read the 7870 was good for its price. So if Nvidia is coming out with a card as good or better I'd go with that.
The top end cards from both companies are close enough in performance usually that if you went top end you wouldn't be disappointed with either, depends on which brand you are partial to. Just know that you can't compare clock speeds 1:1 and decide on which card is better. There are always optimizations made with subsequent driver release that can marginally improve performance in games but other than SLI/crossfire generally everything runs smoothly. Some games are also specifically designed for architecture from AMD/Nvidia so the other brands card will suffer performance wise no matter what (Not huge amount). Off the top of my head PS2 is one game that was designed for nvidia. I know there are others but they don't come to mind.
