What is FFXIV:RR? Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is essential a reboot of the originally FF XIV game which was released in 2010 which was received widespread negative reception. In response to the heavy criticism of the game's quality, Square Enix reshuffled the development team and began completely overhauling the game. On October 14, 2011, Square Enix announced their intention to relaunch the game as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The relaunch will carry over the original game's setting, lore and intended story, but incorporate a new client, graphics engine, server and data structures, a revamped interface, redesigned maps, more gameplay variations and additional story content. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will simultaneously launch on Windows and PlayStation 3, and is currently slated for a mid 2013 release. Alpha testing began on October 29, 2012. I am fairly excited about the re-release as they seem to be returning to more of the FFXI system of jobs which will be a nice break from all of the non-traditional systems we have been receiving lately. It is likely the the game while not being as hardcore as 11, will still highly encourage players to play in parties and staying away from solo play. The new screenshots look pretty and the UI design looks pretty slick, the game is being designed for the PS3 and the PC but neither are ports of each other which means PC players won't have to put up with terrible console menu systems and controls. If you are a lover of PvE content, and exploring a world together with friends, this is a game to keep on your radar.
Ah Riot I knew there was a reason I liked you. Yes I've been following this for a while now. I think it'll be amazing when this launches and I have nothing but respect for Square-Enix realizing their mistake and doing their best to correct it. I'll definitely be playing this. I probably won't be uber-hardcore into it, but I'll definitely be playing it.
I still have an active account and am willing to give it a try. To say I was disappointed in FFXIV is a gross understatement. I endured F2P for nearly a year while they attempted to fix their game, which was an epic win for Square. I mean, who does that these days in a world of greed and pay now attitudes? They came out and said we fucked up, thanks for buying the game, and please enjoy playing sub-free for the next year while we try desperately to fix this abomination. I'm with you Waffle, I won't be hardcore but I'm definitely going to log in and check it out.
Alpha Testing is open to application if anyone has missed them. http://entry.ffxiv.com/alpha/index_na.html
Too bad you need an active FFXIV account to apply. Never played ffxiv, but RR looks very nice so far.
Never liked Final Fantasy. Too much RP, lore, and it takes too bloody long to accomplish anything. I prefer the solo games more than the MMOs they come out with myself.
Doxy: you beat me to the punch with the vid!!! It is a nice vid but to play Devil's advocate, if games were determined by trailers, they would all be EPIC!!! Having said that, I will be giving this a go since I was in on launch for FFXIV. Should be interesting to say the least. PvP will be a very curious aspect given class abilities/dmg/defense/etc; moreso, the attempt to halfway balance the PvP. Having said that, this is the ONE game of late I will not be playing for the PvP, rather, I'll be playing for the PvE (WTF VAN?!?!?!) content. Patiently waiting and crossing fingers for some kind of epic "founders" bonus schwag and shinys.
As a PvE primarily MMO player, I am hyper excited for the game and GOD DAMN that trailer must have cost quite a lot to make. The trailer is beautiful I really hope it reflects the amount of effort put into the new game, if they can deliver on even half of those features I would be happy at launch. I certainly will be playing this game, the new artistic style, and the high production values we have seen from screenshots makes excited(and I promised not to be excited about MMOs anymore). I really hope that a few people in XoO takes an interest(at least a party), as I certainly will be buying this game if beta goes well. It always blows my mind when companies try to use the same ui design...every time I am on a console UI with my PC I cringe. Edit: I may or may not have watched that intro over 5 times now, and need a new pair of pants. Edit Edit: Look what I found.
http://www.finalfantasyxivcutscenes.com/ With 'A Realm Reborn' drawing ever closer, many people will never have the opportunity to see the original 1.0-1.23b storyline. Players who have finished the storyline will likewise be unable to revisit past memories once the current content disappears. For this reason, I've decided to share full HD (1920 x 1080) recordings of the entire Final Fantasy XIV storyline in a single, easy to access location. Needless to say, this website is full of spoilers
I absolutely loved FFXI, I never got into FFXIV due to the responses I heard from the XoO community on it. Quick question though, because I haven't done any research into this -- Is this a stand alone game from FFXIV or just a huge patch update? Basically -- do I buy FFXIV and wait for Realm Reborn to patch up to, or just wait to buy Realm Reborn? While I wait, going to start digging through sites about this game, I hope we get a lot playing. Edit: Ok so they shut the FF14 servers down, and Realm Reborn is the "new" game they are building because 14 was a "flop". Got it. Any other details appreciated though.
Basically after they decided FF14 wasn't able to fix via updates(bandages) they spent a whole shitton of money redesigning the game from the ground up while updating the original game. This next version of the game is called Realm Reborn, and features a shit-ton of modern features and much better design choices compared to the first game. It should "feel" much more MMO standard than the last game. It is a PvE focused game but still has unannounced PvP modes. Essential old characters will be frozen and updated into the new world while Square Enix hopes to attract a large number of new players(us). FF14 old isn't updating anymore, and has been saved for transferring. @Waffle: Well we certainly wouldn't roll together. : P
oh ya I keep forgetting. Alright, well, you guys be sure to let me know what server you're going to play on so that I don't join that server. Sound good? Wonderful. I just don't understand this comment.
So shall I buy FF14 now and wait for it to update to Realm Reborn, or is Realm Reborn a stand-alone title with its own box/digital purchase key? We rarely all roll on the same server anymore. Its weird, huh?
