    Politics and religion have always been off-limits here. And for good reason too -- people tend to get emotional and take it too personally.

  4. Personally as long as people don't carry it on outside of this forum, I don't see what harm can come from talking about politics. If anything it will better inform the people who are planning on voting.

    I think it's just to avoid the slippery slope that leads from intelligent debate to "OMG you're an idiot and your ideas suck!". Although I do enjoy the intelligent debate part as long as all parties keep an open mind and don't expect to agree with everything they read.

    So fuck them. It's absolutely retarded that grown people can't discuss things in public. This is a community for people over 18 right? So why do people get so emotional and act like little kids?

  8. Debate -> Flame War

  9. Only with immature debaters. This whole guild policy is kinda insulting, assuming that a bunch of 18+ year olds can't act mature enough in one forum to talk intelligently about our country.

    Did it occur to you that the reason they have this rule is because people couldn't do just that?

    This is a games forum. If you want to talk about those things, go to any of the thousands of websites that focus on that discussion. XoO is one of the few places we can escape from real world issues and arguments.

    And yes, it always devolves into immature flaming and people calling each other nazis. Always.

    So what you're saying is you agree and we shouldn't have a news and current events forum?

    They have sections for games, SPECIFIC games. Why would we all gather in the News and Current Events to talk about the games we may or may not play together when it's not the place for it?

    Just let people talk about what they want.

    I think you glossed over the premise of Thogun's whole post.

    The point he made is that it's been proven that people sink into flamewars, namecalling, or other immature behaviour. Some people just can't control their tempers, and they are usually the ones who end up ruining it by making it personal and just trying to one-up someone else.

    I think it's a shame, but it's usually the same people who steer threads in that direction, anyways.

    On top of that, half the people here don't even make good attempts at discussions, let alone debates. It's almost all one-liners, cheap shots, or half-assed attempts at truths.

    And I don't want emo-postings like this thread title where people do moar QQ and less pewpew.

    But truly what is the point of having a news and current events section if you can't discuss anything that even remotely reflects politics or religion? Isn't 95% of news based around one of the two?

  15. Don't forget the percentage that is fabricated.
