I wonder what is the best hard drive there is to get out there. i can put them in a raid. so 4 at the max is also ok links and prices are very welcome. cause im looking to buy.
Which RAID? If you are talking RAID0 for speed then I would highly suggest a SSD instead, as it will be the same price and much faster. Western Digital Black drives are the fastest, but lately WD quality has gone down. The black drives get pretty hot too. The Green drives are terrible and you should not buy those ever. Also the RAID version of the WD Black is really expensive Samsung has a good balance of speed and reliability with their F3, they even have a raid edition specific drive with a changed firmware so the drives dont interfere with the RAID array. I would recommend a 256GB SSD instead, as it is slightly cheaper than 4 mechanical drives now days and still about 20x faster than a RAID0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147135 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167086
Don't worry about the MLC, over SLC either Thaisha. I was going to post the same ones that Enigma posted. With the Intel SSD posted overall you'll be able to write to the drive, and read from the drive slightly faster.
The MLC cells in these drives will last you forever. Real world testing has shown these drives to be able to write into the petabyte range before the cells wear out. It is much more likely to fail from a power issue in your computer or the controller dying before the cells wear out.
PCI-E SSD's are te best but they are so expensive talking hundreds I think Intel make some pretty awesome SSD's , also Corsair I have 2x 120gb corsair force 3 SSd's and they are super fast Make sure you geta sata 3 ones if your board is capable
Here is a link to my ssd's that i think work awesome http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-021-CS&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=1427 My windows 7 loads in about 7 seconds and programs are instant theres no waiting at all They have a sale on them at the moment too
I've read something about Ram-sticks being used as HDD. Was expensive and you should not have a power failure
Like the Fusion-IO. They actually sell capacitor modules to go with them so in the event of a power failure it is supposed to be able to copy the data out of the RAM banks and onto a hard disk. But yes, far too expensive. a 1TB Fusion-IO costs over $20,000. I know, I had to look into them for a contract work.
