In Stores 2012 http://www.guildwars2.com/en// Alright fellas, If you haven't caught the word, GW2 is the biggest thing to happen to XoO since planetside. Period. -Coordinated Massive-Scale PvP (300+ Players Per Maps/2 Week Matches) -Massive-Scale matches last 2 weeks and reward the entire server -Multi-Role capture points, fortifications and assault -Polished High-Budget MMO -Box Model (NO SUBSCRIPTION, NO MICROTRANS) -High reviews from beta testers (we are post-NDA) -High quality arena mode pvp -High quality open-world pvp -Massive organic/dynamic dramaless, setupless, fast-paced PvE -NO GRINDING -Stunning graphics, audio and attention to detail -Low overhead -Excellent 10/10 mechanical models for everything XoO requires. Until PS2/equivalent launches, this is our game. --------------------------- World vs. World (PvP Server vs. Server vs. Server) Dynamic Events (PvE on-the-fly quests)
Couple clarifications: WvW is only confirmed to handle 300 people per map so far but I believe they want to ramp it up further (and that's still quite a few people). The game is not microtransaction-based, but there is an in-game shop for cosmetic stuff; we do have a guarantee it will not be determining who is more competitive though (i.e. no "pay-to-win"). GW1 already does the same thing, so should serve as a model of what to expect out of it.

[UPDATE] This just in, Beta-Event has been confirmed to begin in Late-March. Source: MMORPG.COM Also, Confirmed on Twitter by @GuildWars2: ...confirmed, in the past hour we released that news to the press ~AT ----- Actually this is the biggest thing to happen to XoO was Guild Wars 1. While Planetside gave us the foundation population which still exists to this very day, Guild Wars was the period we had the most numbers in our guild. Since then of course, a lot of those people have vanished. Sadly, you just don't find loyal folks anymore. I do miss those Planetside days, thankfully PS2 is around the corner -- just hope it doesn't suck.
I agree with Orlean, mind you that there were two periods in the GW division's health spike. Period 1: Moskel Moskel lead XoO as an e-sports guild, allowing us to win 10th in the factions tourney, it landed us GoTW award on the GW news page and attracted many members of good standing. Moskel had a very serious attitude when in match. He was able to lead players while in match with a hard-edge, loud and frustrated demeanor without being negative about it. Rare indeed, and widely successful! Period 2: Billiard Our GvG ranking and success landed us members like Billiard, who was the CR of GWGURU, which pre-dates wiki and was the main community hub, especially when information on the game wasn't readily available in reference-friendly forms. XoO's reputation along with our contacts with GWGURU landed us a good spot, and in what was at maximum a 8v8 game we managed to get 800 members, split into 8 (more or less) divisions, each ran by sub-divisional leadership, each with a different purpose. There was pve divisions, casual divisions, pvp divisions, ranked divisions, divisions for timezones. Everything was made as needed, and was successful. During Billiards leadership the game's pvp died, most of the good players in the game had left the guild and the game entirely, and XoOGW has slowly dwindled in members and PvP focus simply because the PvP wasn't there. Today PvP is stone cold, there is activity when a pvp weekend in-game bonus comes up, but it's all scrubs. There's no reason to train competitively at the game anymore, so no one does. We know that GW2 has great polish and focus on: -PvE -Arena -BYOB massive PvP We've already determined that making XoOGW2 PvP focused might be successful at PvP, but would lose us a great deal of activity and it's probably not a good move at all. People can join unlimited guilds in-game, as long as they don't have the same purpose as XoO they don't break the CoC, so if we PvP focus you'll see players pop out of XoOTS and hop into a PvE or a hybrid guild's TS, losing their loyalty and diminishing guild health. I'd throw my chips in with seeing XoOGW2 emerge as a hybrid-focus guild, with strong sub-divisional goals where they are needed.
so basically Gw2 is based around controlled PvP? Bc last I heard they arnt doing Open world PvP you would have you normal server you join on then when you want to PvP you que up tot he PvP server or what ever its called if thats the case not truly open world then
arena net does not want PK or Dueling on the PvE areas of the game due to issues it could cause with dynamic events. so they moved all PvP into "the mists" when you take there vision for GW2 as a whole into effect the move makes seance.
There's a general theme they are keeping: "Players should be happy to see other players." and as much fun ganking would be for the minority, it detracts for this centralized point for the majority. The most astounding thing GW2/Anet is doing with GW2 is how much effort they focus on meetings and review/assessment. Instead of push a mechanic forward they assess it's full effect several times over several meetings per week, then discuss it AS they produce it and question things over and over. The result is a highly polished product. Why? Because they have their shit together. Prolly wouldn't work for a shitty def team tbh.
Hey all, new to XoO, but fired up for GW2. It'll be interesting to see how they keep the PvP scene from getting stale. GW opened up strong, but they couldn't keep things fresh enough with the limited maps for GvG and ToPK/HA. I expect that the WvWvW game will draw huge following initially, and hopefully they will be able to sustain some form of competetive balance.
WvWvW has been designed for maximum PvP stability, even 5 years down the line if their 5v5 or other structured pvp modes go stale as GW1's did, it should still be active. The balance on GW2 is superb, and I don't think you'll have an easy time picking role or meta when you log on.
Stability is a relative term, but I hope you are correct. I suspect A-net is going to play some games with the competetive format after release, because 5v5 seems too vanilla and there is clearly opportunity to keep the PvP format fresh by making periodic changes (altering team sizes, changing maps/objectives, etc). I think they have learned from the experience of GW and from what I've seen of 2 they are putting out a much improved product. From what I've seen of the traits and attributes system balance is going to be a very 'mathy' proposition for the dev's, but if they are successful, then it could be an incredibly diverse PvP environment that will be entertaining for a very long time.
I would be inclined to agree, but the construction of WvW will outlast the engine for PvP appeal, the same as PS1 outlasted it's engine. People will move on and seek structured PvP combat on the most fun, cleanest and most interesting format and GW2 will not remain there forever, but what it can do is set itself up so it has another 5-10 years to work on a sequel if economically viable.
