I was watching some of the trailers where the developers talk about their plans for the game and it reminded me alot of the Armored Core games that they have for the consoles. It will be 1) Multiplayer only with no single player storyline 2) Mechs are all small but different classes like light, medium, heavy (they compare them to about the same size as the mech from the Avatar movie and smaller then the mechs from the Mechwarrior games) 3) Each mech has a primary weapon which is used as a spam skill and a secondary weapon that deals massive damage but with a really long cooldown. 4) The mechs move around just like the mechs from Armored Core. 5) The mechs have unlimited ammo. 6) You cant blow up specific parts of the mechs body (example: hitting the left arm to blow up the left arm). Instead the mechs will have health bars and the mech will be destroyed when health reaches zero. 7) It doesnt look like its going to have anything to strive for in the game (weapon unlocks, mech unlocks, pilot unlocks, skill unlocks) it will just be shooting each other on different maps for fun using the same mechs and weapons forever. Watch the developer plans in these two videos: Part 1: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/design-goals-hawken/714433 Part 2: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/design-goals-hawken/714431 I was looking forward to this game but these videos are sending me some serious red flags. It looks to me like this game will be a rush job to make some quick cash instead of a game with substance. So its like your typical FPS games. I'd like to see more "mechy" stuff, but who knows. Also, its an indie game and looks DAMN good to be such a low budget game.
hey! cool the naysaying, bro. I too pumped for this game to have you blasting holes in my sails with your negativity! So what if every point you make is totally valid and potentially very disappointing...
A mech game is like armored core? Impossible. Armored core is a good game. Plus, mech games are just slower moving FPS games anyways.
That certainly is a bit disappointing. We'll have to see I guess. I was honestly hoping for a bit more simulation mixed into it for me. If I don't get that and it's just arcade style FPS then fine, but I would really like a true mech simulation game then. :\
Like Armored Core? Half the stuff you stated contradicts that statement. I've been a hardcore fan and player of Armored Core since it's first release on the Playstation. <.< Also, Tommy just earned some Brownie Points with me for that statement.
I don't get the armor core vibe from it. But it's not like traditional mechwarrior either. I think it looks awesome.
Kinda a hybrid of styles, sadly, the game is far to bouncy for my taste. I prefer mech games to be slow and tactical rather than fast and twitchy.
I definitely get more of an arcade feel from it versus a simulation feel, but it could still be fun. I'm excited for it still. It's no MechWarrior, but until a proper MechWarrior gets released, I'll have to satisfy my mech combat cravings with this.
Has there ever been a decent Robotech game? I can't even think of one. That's like asking for a good Macross game released in the US.
