I personally don't care what is posted. If you all want to talk politics, go for it. The xenate said sunday, no politics no religion. I'll let dash close em if they get out of control. I enjoy talking about politics. I don't care whats goes on, have at it.
Is this what starts the Apocalypse? The people of the world unite to shut down their governments, giving Aliens/Skynet/The Mayans control of the world. Global Thermal Nuclear War, etc, etc...
It sort of relates to politics, but politics is more talking about political issues like "hot topics" between party's for instance. This on the other hand and things like it are inter-party and have people for and opposed on both sides and relates more to our ability to do things online. No one here should really be for this type of stuff so there shouldnt be any debating whether it should or shouldnt be a law. It is more to get people aware so we can all help fight it than anything else.
Well lets just keep it basic and avoid political details. In short, the internet really is screwed if these things get passed. Booo.
A valid response. Whoever wrote this needs to learn English. There is a trade agreement of this kind but the rest of that text is all bullshit. ISPs do not have the resources to monitor each packet, the best they can do is log traffic. They are not obliged to even check the logs unless a rights owner provides credible proof that the user has breached copyright. http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2011/0011/latest/DLM2764312.html is kind of long-winded, being a legal document, but at least it's not full of hyperbole.
So we need to develop better and easier encryption methods for all network traffic, and build this encryption into Windows so that all traffic on home networks and internet automatically get encrypted from end to end When no encryption module is detected on initial handshake then traffic defaults to no encryption, for compatibility with older OSes and other operating systems like Linux when people use those systems to host things like MMO servers. Im sure a linux module would be developed shortly after anyway. That would at least put things off another few years until legislation gets passed to give governments the authority to have a master key that lets them view all encrypted traffic.
Well comcast certainly monitors once various triggers are flipped. As soon as you hit 250 gigs, you are flagged for internal monitoring. All providers monitor you and your flagged by action. Comcast, that now owns nbc universal monitors a great deal. You would be surprised what is monitored. Things that once needed a warrants will be automatic. It's a huge Grey area on comcast policing itself for infringement of copyright with respect to nbc universal.
when I spoke with Ani and xenate Sunday, it was reaffirmed that if it relates, does relate, kinda relates, maybe relates to politics its not allowed as of Sunday. However like I said, someone else can deal as an administrator posted this thread. I personally have no issue with it, ie political talks, however I am a huge fan of copyright rights law too...
Honestly, I dont even care what is monitored, I don't know why anyone would, oh yeah because they are too cheap to purchase media.
That's not always the case. I have a friend who is an exchange student on a scholarship due to her "vast penitential" (Very very very intelligent) BUT has absolutely no money to her name (Lived on the streets before managing to express her abilities). She literally works nights 5 days a week as well as studying, just so she can afford accommodation and food. She has a laptop that was supplied by her exchange university but there is no way she can buy any programs due to her financial position. If she had not pirated these programs, I can vouch that she wouldn't have the tools to study her subject. She admittedly pirates things, and I really can't seem to hold it against her. I have no doubt that she would purchase them should she be in the position. I'll agree that pirating things is wrong and harms the developers pocket. However it also can provide opportunities to those who are less fortunate. I'm not saying I am for/against pirating things, but I don't like the idea of people like her not getting a chance, if you get what I am trying to say.
I talked with Ani and Bishop about it and they said they didn't see a problem with it before I posted it. They concluded that this was more of a gamer thing than a politics thing. If someone is offended by the thread feel free to PM me or Delshin and I will approve of it's deletion. My goal isn't to spark any drama over this thread. The reason I am interested is because it was posted on one of my anime fansub sites and I will move to Nigeria before I rid myself of my subs.
That's voluntary and comes down to Comcast trying to save money. In this country you're charged for data use over a certain limit, usually 15-30 GB, to deal with that. Because of that there's no incentive for ISPs to report anything unless they're legally obliged to or being paid to.
It can. Most ISPs just cut customers' bandwidth back to 128k downstream, because people were getting bills for hundreds of dollars because of visitors, kids or bandwidth leeches.
