That sounds like a perfectly good way to fuck everyone over. There was no goddamn reason to do that...

Hmm... find vaccine that might have saved 350 people or create air-borne virus that can kill 60% of EVERYONE. I'm pretty sure my math is good and that just equals fucking retarded.

This is how they develop vaccines ahead of the natural mutations......... Would you rather they wait for it to happen wipe out a million people then develop the vaccine? Once a human can get it it's only a matter of time before the mutation happens that allows it to transmit.

I was just raging at them announcing they have it. No need to tell the world you have ability to kill them all.

Yeah, news like that doesn't make anyone feel safer. It's like going to the mall and yelling "I HAVE A BOMB!! BUT DON't WORRY... I'M NOT GONNA USE IT LOL!"

Although I hope they can get a vaccine out quick, as some kind of outbreak is imminent, and it could be H5N1.

Have any of you actually had H1n1, or bird flu? I have. It was no joke. I was in a near paralytic state due to joint pain/muscle tension. Dangerously high fever and an IV bag. Doctors said i nearly died. This was over a year ago- when the initial outbreak hit. I was on crazy medicine that basically killed everything. I honestly don't feel like I ever fully recovered- like I'm more prone to illness after I had it. Almost as if it completely wiped out my immune system- and it had to start over. Stuff that never used to bother me does- but my immune system creates antibodies and I get over it quickly. Think of it as an immune system reformat, for lack of a better metaphor. The parts are still there and work fine, they just have to get new information. I dont wish it on anyone.
This article is particularly worrisome for me- I survived because I was extremely healthy at the time and I got medical assistance fast. Can we all say we are in that kind of physical condition now? I know Im not.

That sounds terrible dude. Glad to see you recovered... wouldn't wanna go through that myself.

Did you have h5n1 (bird flu) or h1n1 (swine flu)? I guess the symptoms would be pretty similar.

    Serious note:
Strains of flu kill people every year. It isn't until the Media gets involved that people (i.e. people in the US) realize this.

The fact that its Sitting in a Lab is nothing to worry about it think about it

Smallpox The biggest Scourge known to all humanity has only existed for 30+ years in two places on earth the CDC in Atlanta and Siberia it has never escaped seance it was eradicated from the human population.

Fun Side note back in the mid 90's the Last Known samples of Smallpox were slated for execution by autoclave but was given a stay of execution based upon the ethical grounds of extinction.

Currently they are debating on destroying the samples again

    Meh, I dunno. Accidents happen.

Ever hear of Ebola and Marburg? A loverly virus that liquefies you, and was cultivated in a lab for a few years before it "got out". It was originally contained in the rainforest areas where whole village would quarantine themselves off to prevent spread of it. What did idiot scientists do? Went and picked that bitch up! b(^.^)b

Read "The Hot Zone" Scary ass book.

Thankfully BS4 Labs are few far between and the guys that work in them are screened thoroughly so lovely shit like Argentine hemorrhagic fevers, Marburg virus, Ebola virus, Lassa fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and worst of all smallpox just don't walk out the door

As Far as BL4 labs the only "bad case" involved a Lady by the name of Janet Parker was exposed to Smallpox in a laboratory When a doctor doped a vile in the laboratory one floor below were she was working. After that incident occurred the Doctor who was working with the virus committed suicide. and subsequent regulations were passed requiring the installation of Further safety equipment.

These labs are as Safe as we can make them at this point ans safety is constantly improving accidents extremely rare.

You have more to worry about from Stuff like TB (Wich was gone in the United States but back again) because people moving across borders without passing customs or being screened by Physicians.
