Update on the server side of Bulldozer (same as client side but with lower speeds and higher core counts). This is from John, the director of product marketing for server stuff at AMD The first box went to Cray.
Tank Guys will be selling Bulldozer CPUs for these prices: The owner of Tank Guys is seeing about pre-orders for these CPUs and I already told him I am interested in the 8150, so I might be pre-ording that one soon. I hope performance is really good, but even if its not I will really enjoy tweaking the settings in the bios. Intel just isnt fun for me anymore.
Fuck! This is sooner than I thought but still really good news. Gotta get me one of those chips and start building. BF3 here I come.
I haven't kept up with the model numbers, are those the only desktop consumer chips available first at launch?
there is, or was a 4000 SKU as well. Also keep in mind Bulldozer are a little different in that x4,x6,x8 are modules with 2 cores in each modules. So if they used the old Athlon II and Phenom II core indicator they would be called X8,X12 and X16.
Not having to do with launch, but just thought you would all like to know that the new 8 core Zambezi (Bulldozer cores) processor, an FX8150 now hold the Guinness book of world records fastest processor speed ever. It set the record with 8.43Ghz. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1980971 These are the guys who did it, that is Chew* in the background. Hes a great guy: Chew* says this about the processors they used to get the world record:
Brian got the ok from AMD to release some more video he had made of Bulldozer. And although he has not released specific info, Chew said that he was able to hit 5GHz on the stock cooler.
The whole goal is to push more performance out of your system. Most people overclock as an enthusiast hobby though.
Why overclock with one of these? You can get an extra 600-800MHz for free (assuming you have the 4.2GHz stock speed processor, if you have an FX-8120 then you can probably get 800-1000MHz extra) Same reason you overclock a socket 1155 Sandy Bridge processor, it is incredibly easy and you get an extra 500-600MHz for free. There is no reason not to.
Bottom Line Telecommunications lists these as estimated in stock on the 22nd (next Thursday), you can also pre-order them so it ships as soon as they are in: http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop...LA5134P.shtml&order_id=!ORDERID!#Availability $266 for a fast quad/octo core? Thats pretty good. Remember, although these are marketed as an 8 core, it is still more like a quad with very advanced hyper-threading. Not a true full 8 cores, but close. AMD's hyper threaded core has 180% the performance of two full cores. Intel's hyper threaded cores have I think it is 117% the performance of two full cores.
Heres a benchmark for it: http://wccftech.com/amd-bulldozer-f...i-x6-1100t-clocktoclock-benchmark-comparison/ I wish they would benchmark it against the Intel chips though. Its not in stock yet at Newegg.com, Amazon.com or Zipzoomfly.com.
Please dont psot OBR stuff here I hope this isnt true, bvut if it is then that suckls. But dont post anything by OBR,m he is know to post completely false benchmarks about products. Terrible [;lace tpo get info from. Ge was even bannedc ffrom a major site that has the most legit stuff and the biggest name people because he kept posting so much fake stuff. Two people OI know and respect say BD is a winner so I am going off what they say, not what someone who is knownt o post completeluy false info says about a product. Heres what the guy I know says:
So the big rumor is that this will be out of NDA and a possible launch in 2 days... We are seeing a couple leaked benchmarks, but dont know what performance is really like. One place that has a good reputation posted VERY bad benchmarks, but another place posted pretty good benchmarks. SO final numbers could be either way, but this doesnt bode well for AMD. Performance may depend on quite a few things from the rest of the system. Ill leave you with the hopefully right good numbers, but well see for sure in a couple days.
Almost for free. Heat friction still exists and all the CPUs are microscopically different. Fortunately, overclocking doesn't void the warranty. That bastage.
