It has been rumored to be mid September for a while, and a comic released at Comic-con said launch dat ewas Sept. 19th. Now a motherboard manufacturer has leaked a launch date they supposedly have: Look at the stock frequencies of this first release. AMD has always released lower frequencies and built up as they go with new revisions. So if AMD follows the same as they have done since the beginning of the company, we could be looking at 5GHz turbo core speeds with a new revision or two. These GHz speeds should be able to compete now with the Sandy Bridge frequencies.
I'll say..that would be awesome, I can't stand Intel products. You'd also be amazed how ingrained Intel is on the general consumer. Some people I try to sell computers to don't even want to look at AMD stuff.. lolwut? Then again..most of them are idiots anyways.. Hopefully this could change the way people look at AMD.
you know i find the same thing ... everytime i mention it has an AMD chip in the machine they are like nah ill go with intel ... when half of em dont even know the difference between the chips at all
Well, depending where you set the idiot/non-idiot bar, it could be a safe claim - after all, the majority (75-80%?) of computer users have Intel systems, and if more than about half of computer users can be deemed idiots, the chances of the same applying to users with Intel systems - which would already make it "most" - become very great indeed.
Which if these have a turbo speed of 4.5GHz on the first stepping, and a TDP of 125w, I would imagine that you could drop the turbo speed down to about 3GHz and be able to drop the voltage down to maybe around 1.2-1.25v. Which would probably bring the TDP of these all the way down to somewhere around a max draw of 80-90w. Which is still kinda excessive, but easily coolable and still would be plenty fast. And think of it, 80-90w os close to 10w of power per core. Thats getting pretty efficient for x86 processors.
I know you were not completely serious but your average user is going to buy a prebuilt machine not knowing anything about it. I've been building systems since I was young and up until now and have used both platforms. Your average computer is an idiot in most cases no matter what platform they pick, not the other way around. Since I don't fall into this "idiot category " I'm just going to leave it to you venting your work frustrations on the forum. Plus, you can't blame Intel , or lump all of a certain type of user into the same category. If most prebuilt machines were AMD would you be saying the same thing? Again, those "idiots" just buy whatever the store has despite the specifications. Idiots are idiots because of lack of knowledge, not because of the choice of platform or hardware.
Most idiots are over in the Apple camp anyway ok Im sorry, I just had to say it. I know there are some people here who like using a Mac.
enigma i think you just went over the head of half the users here with some of what ya said about the AMD proc but yeah I have no problem with AMD stuff i just like intel ... last AMD i used was the 3200+ hahahaha
Then why would I pay for the turbo and not use it? MOAR FANS IMO! Kidding. AMD runs a little hot regardless. I have three rigs in my media room that run, and damn...turn on the AC! To answer your question Sogetsu, no I wasn't implying that they were but given the odds of how often Intel is in a common chipset in the average consumer computer, and how most of the average consumer expects your local Walmart employee to educate you on the deets of computers (and when I say that, most of these people look at me when I say you plug your mouse in the USB port and say "Whats a 'ubs' port?" ), the odds could be that great. I was implying however that Intel has an awesome advertisement crew and most people have never heard of AMD, let alone recognize it's gaming benefits. I'm partial cause I seem to have more luck and compatibilly with AMD. I'm not replacing my whole rig in a year to upgrade. That's rather nice lol. But yeah, I want to bang my head against the wall everyday when I'm in electronics. Most people I see think they can run Crysis on a wonderful little Acer netbook because, no lie, they point at the Intel sticker and say I'm wrong. >< Pick up a copy of Consumer Reports then come talk to me.
Zing! I had a guy call me dumb cause I prefered Android over Apple. "well hun, Im sorry you have problems figuring out how to operate your phone" And walks away. Also, good point Sogetsu. If AMD was in them, it would be the other way around. But from building experiance, I dunno. I have more success with AMD. :/
I've been waiting since the beginning of the year to build my new rig because of these processors please come out already.
I've used both, including both red and green team for graphics, and enjoy Intel and nVidia these days. I hope these processors are good though cause I'm getting the itch to build again.
That's a fairly quick launch date. Wasn't it announced not to long ago? Pretty impressive. Sorry, just had to. You know it's true! =P
Most "things" come out within the year of announcement, well.. generally speaking. I could understand theories and what not being "announced" but.. its different with this - as its launch has been delayed constantly over the past year or so. Slightly.. different, maybe?
