Seriously...Look at the video. Quick's stick is still next to his body, while the puck is halfway between Quick and the net. His stick is no where near the puck when it turns.
If the puck hit the stick as it was going underneath Quick the trajectory and rotation of the puck could have been affected. The puck could have hit the ground after hitting the stick with a certain angle or spin that caused it to change course.
We're talking about the second change in trajectory, not the first one. For the first one it hits his pads and changes trajectory. You can argue it hit his stick, even though it didn't. For the second change in trajectory (third image) it hits the ice and bounces.
If it hit his stick or pads it does not matter. I am not sure how you are 100% certain eitherway, I am not. Anyway, if it was in the process of changing course while in the air it could continue that course when it hit the ice. In this case it was veering to Quicks left. Like I said earlier, it is almost impossible to be sure. It is just an opinion!
Are you a conspiracy theorist that believes the puck had a piece of metal in it and that there was a magnetic grid underneath the ice that was activated to change the pucks trajectory?
IMO it hit the pad, gained some rotational movement and when it hit the rough ice just continued on a trajectory that agreed with the spin of the puck. The ice is already rougher there than the rest, no?
I have had situations like this on the rink where the puck did something unexpected ... the puck can spin flip bounce do anything ... it almost seems like the puck was spinning when it hit the ice thus making it change

This. And I was thinking it'd be fun for them to make the playoffs... but it doesn't look like it'll happen. They're only slightly outside the bracket but I can't see them making enough in-roads to deal with the games-remaining deficit, especially if they keep losing.

Well, if there's any bright side to this, it's that we get to find out early if Chicago is going to do it again, despite all odds... personally I'd rather have had them face Detroit or not be in at all. But Calgary's kung-fu is not strong enough to make it happen, and Dallas will need to pick things up if they're still to have a chance of displacing them.
I totally agree but from the standings I would rather face the Hawks in the first round than the Ducks. The Ducks top line is just sick right now, Perry,Getzlaf and Ryan is probably the most physical and dominating line in the West right now and with Malhotra out, we don't have the option of a second Grade A center men to win those defensive face-offs when that line is on, meaning if they get possesion... watch out.... The Hawks are still a handful but they are not the Hawks of previous years and their physical factor is no longer as prevalent as last year. The Canucks went the route of less finesse and more grind while the Hawks did the opposite. Not as tough a match as before. Screw the mental hurdle of losing to them 2 years in a row in the second round, we need to beat them first and then go for a long long playoff run.
