Whats the best way to hook my xbox up to my computer monitor. The monitor supports dvi or vga. Also since the monitor does not have speakers, whats the best solution there? Gruune
HDMI to DVI cable. DVI is pin to pin compatible with HDMI and supports all the same stuff except for 3D and deep color which XBox doesnt use or support anyway. Only problem is that I dont think your monitor knows how to take audio out of HDMI if it only has a DVI connection, it probably just has an 1/8" stereo jack input. Your best way would be to use the HDMI to DVI cable, and then a second dual RCA to 1/8" audio cable. http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10231&cs_id=1023102&p_id=2218&seq=1&format=2 http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=5611&seq=1&format=2 please verify before you purchase anything that your monitor does in fact use and 1/8" audio input. And that your XBox can use both HDMI and RCA audio out. Some versions of the XBox have the adapter plug with the RCA outputs so fat that it covers up the HDMI output and both cannot be used at the same time. Being that there are 13 or 14 different versions of the XBox 360, I cannot guess whether yours can do both at the same time or not. If not, there are aftermarket adapters that allow HDMI and RCA at the same time. EDIT: your XBox has male RCA connections, and a decently long cable for them already. So that cable will go all the way to the back of your monitor and then you use that small 7" long dual RCA female to stereo 1/8" male adapter. You dont need a giant long adapter cable for that
Its the new slim black system but will the xbox broadcast from both outputs? meaning if the hdmi is being used, will override the other cable with the yellow white red ? Gru
I believe the system cant output hdmi and audio on different lines. You could buy the Official 360 VGA Cables and just covert the RCA lines to w/e type you need (like Enigma stated)
Well it worked in the last generation model, my friend setup was like that, except it went to a 500w stereo power amplifier and tower speakers instead of monitor speakers
I use a little adapter that came with my Elite to get audio while using my monitor via a HDMI/DVI connection. The adapter connects to the giant A/V output port on the xbox and has connections for optical sound as well as the regular red/white RCA jacks. The adapter overrides the HDMI sound. On the new slim 360s, you don't need the adapter if you want to use an optical cable for sound, as it has its own optical port that can be used in conjunction with its HDMI port. I have some good news, you're wrong.
I use a HDMI to DVI connector for my laptop to my lcd. It's quite nice and you can use the full reso your monitor offers not what your LCD on your notebook asks for.
my elite didn't come with that audio adaptor but you can use the work around and thats take the plastic covering off the component/composite/rca cord and it will fit underneath the hdmi slot and save you about $30 as well. Also the 360 outputs full power in audio to all channels meaning unlike the PS3 where only the main channel will be surround 360 outputs in all dolby digital surround to all lines unless of course you are connecting the red and white rca cables.
