im installing a new motherboard, cpu and ram today. I wanted to know do i have to reformat my harddrive or can i wait until i get the windows 7 disk im waiting on? Thanks Mebard
Due to the fact that you are installing major components into your system, you probably will not be able to boot into the OS. You can wait on your Windows 7 disk to arrive prior to reformatting.
Definitely should always reformat - mainly due to the fact that most of your drivers on your current drive are for your "old mobo" and hardware. Always best to reformat when starting or re-doing a build. Makes for less headache.
How long till you get Windows 7? If its only going to be a week or so, and Windows lets you boot fine and everything *seems* to be working well enough, then wait. It sucks to do a reformat twice in a week. But if Windows doesnt let you in because of the significant hardware change, then you will probably have to do a reformat and reinstall now. Unless you dont want to use your computer until you get the Windows 7 disk. In general, it is best to do a reformat of the drive and reinstall Windows.
I recently built a new computer, and used the same hard drive with Windows 7 already installed. I manually removed the old drivers and installed the new ones without any problems.
yea all im doing right now is repairing windows xp for now. q said i could do that with out losing all my stuff until i get windows 7 here. Thank you all for your answers and help
ok so i got another ? i did the core unlocker for my cpu but now when i look at my prop im either seeing my speed at 799mhz or 2.08 ghz can anybody tell me why im not getting the 3.2
Or you could do this, but I just like cleaning a drive just in-case. D: I don't recall, or if you even mentioned, what kind of CPU you have - but the above might be because Turbo is enabled. Can check your bios if it is.
this is what i put in http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 im using windows xp 32bit and i did a fresh reformat on my harddrive. I unlocked the 4 cores this morning. when i do right click on my computer and hit prop it shows the specs of your comp. The cpu is showing 800mhz but now if you times that by 4 that would come up to 3200 or 3.2 ghz tell me if my thinking is right.
Yep, never told us. Has to be an AMD processor though, either a dual or triple core. Im guessing maybe an x2 555 Callisto?
Um... That is a quad core processor. no need to unlock at all. it is already using all of its processing cores. Only the dual and triple cores based off the same core can be unlocked and that is a hit or miss as well. Those cores didnt pass spec so AMD disabled them and sells the processor as a lower end triple or dual core processor. Only these processors are capable of unlocking to a full quad core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ption=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc= And these triple core CPUs can unlock to a quad as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...ption=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc= However those triple cores are based on a different quad core, called Propus. The dual cores above are the same Deneb core as the quad that you bought. These Rana core processors if unlocked to a quad will be a quad core with disabled l3 cache, as the Propus core is.
Ill talk to you on TS. I am not up on the latest unlocking procedure, it used to be messing with the Advanced Clock Calibration settings. However I think AMD disabled that in the 8 series chipset. So I dont know what you did exactly to unlock or what is required to undo that.
