The forums were rolled back several hours. Some posts and threads will be missing and possibly a few users who just recently registered. The cause was an infestation of mutant space squirrels, but they were quickly dispatched. Sorry for the inconvenience.
you lost my credits - I hit the goddamn jackpot on Ninjas. ok not the jackpot but besides losing my fantastic jab at your XoO t-shirt drawing, I was up about 7500 more than I am now seriously, why the rollback? I'm just curious what could get into our forums to cause something like that. I'm sure others are too.
That was the backup. We lost less than a day thankfully. The database got borked bad and I got a phone call at about 2am to fix it. While loosing any amount of data is bad it could have been much much worse.
hrm.. so, it sounds like there a full backup is done without syncing transaction logs? Are the transaction logs being synced with the backup? check mysqldump options etc. The more I think about it the more I wonder if we have control over the backup or the host. For all I know, you could have a decent transaction log and just need to use it? http://techovdoom.blogspot.com/2010/01/rollback-with-mysql-transaction-log.html
Kind of figured as much, might be worth having a chat with them to see what they are doing. Also, what does our contract say regarding data integrity / backups? having to rollback to a PIT (point-in-time) 7 hours ago is just pure BS, wonder if they support any e commerce sites? That would just suck monkey balls!
