Hey guys, still working on my PC build stuck on case choice right now. I found the the Antec DF-85 recently and one of the main perks for me is the filters. The front 3 fans have fitlers that can be pulled out and cleaned which should realy help keep the parts dust free inside. Just curious since I'm going to be ordering this week if any of you have used this case or know of any other cases that use similiar setups wear the air pulls through some kind of filtration system. I've been bouncing back and forth between the HAF X, another Lian'Li, or the Corsair 600T until I ran into the DF-85. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129087&Tpk=DF 85
My budgets about 2.5k on my current setup evga 480Gtx, I7 950, 12 gigs of corsair, 1 40gig ssd as the boot drive and a 1TB data drive are the core of the system on a Evga x58 ftw3. Will have 2 Optical drives + one for hotswap for my portable gaming drive. I'm well within budget not a fan of SLI but wanted a MB that would support it plus USB 3.0 for upgrades in the next few years.
I was referring to the PP on the case, but that's enough to work with. (Remember this will have to include non stock fans too) Just a quick side note: From what I've seen thus far, there have been no good cases for USB3.0. Anyone that advertises it typically wants you to run a cable around the back of the box and into your case, which I personally think is pathetic. If you want a placeholder case due to this, the Xigmatek Utgard was on sale at newegg for 50% off last week.
Ya of the cases I've looked at 2 are wired for USB 3.0 the HAF X and the DF-85. If I was more patient I'd wait for early next year when the new chips/mb designs are coming out. The main factor nudging me though is my wife, she always takes over my current system when I build a new one. While my current system runs every game out on max. Shes currently running an old single core AM2 with SLI'd 7800gts thats about 5+ years old now. She doesn't do any gaming but she does do alot of cad type programs for her embroidery business. So shes on my back to get a system capable of doing her work again heh. I even offered to build her a new system and wait on mine and she burned that idea down right away. The worst part of building a system for me is like being a kid in a candy store. I know what I want well before I get started then along the way I end up constantly bumping into new stuff delaying my decision. Which is now just the case tbh I'm more anal about the lack of good filtering in most of the cases that I've looked at. I checked on the Lian LI 800d again and suprised that it doesn't have USB 3.0. The only case that realy has everything I want is the DF-85, but I'm not 100% sold on the look of it.
Most won't have USB 3.0 yet. Even the cases that have USB 3.0 don't have it yet. As like I said, they don't have any internal connector, it's literally just an extension. You run the cable from inside your case to the outside of your case and plug it in, in the back. It's tacky and awful. It's the same on the HAF, 600t, etc... There is no standard yet, because Intel won't support USB 3.0 until next year because they don't want to release new chipsets ahead of their time line.
I don't get why you would need to run cables outside the case. I looked at a few builds on youtube and none of those were doing that /shrug. Though I do agree intel needs to get the support out since USB 3.0 was announced back in 07. Honestly though I don't know if I'll have a geniune need for it unless printers, keyboards, or other plug-ins require it. All this aside I wish more cases had built in filters especialy all these full towers boasting high air flow cooling. There just magnets for dust I already have to clean my Lian Li case about twice a month. Still seems the DF-85 is the only case thats going to have the room, futureproofing, and filtering I want. I read on the Coolermaster site they were developing filters for the HAF series, but who knows when they will be for sale.
I've got a Cooler Master Scout and quite happy with it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196 It has filters over the fans, but they aren't easily removable like the DF-85. This hasn't been an issue for me - once a month or so, a can of compressed air cleans them out quickly.
It's because motherboard's don't have a pinout as of yet, as there is no industry standard. The only USB 3.0 connectors are going to be on the back plate.
More so yay for Intel not wanting to support it yet so they can keep their 6billion dollar quarterly profits up.
Ya the USB 3.0 things kind of urking me the more I learn about it. On one hand I build now and end up up with the system I want and a case that supports USB 3.0 in the future. Though that will leave me with a MB that while it may have rear USB 3.0 ports won't beable to hook up properly to the front ones. Argghh...
Doubtful, Intel will do its thing when Intel is good and ready. But Im sure any motherboard manufacturer could easily add front panel USB support. There are 3rd party chips to get an add-in card for USB3, they could easily take one of those chips and integrate it onto the MB (like many already have) and just run the traces to a different place besides the back panel and put the pinout there instead of going to an actual port. It really isnt that hard.
Headers are plugs on the back plate. For a case to use USB 3.0 you have to run a cable from the internal line to the back plate. As there is no pinout on the board itself inside of the case. There are, as far as I know, no cases with INTERNAL (case support) USB 3.0 Mobos.
Looks like this might be the first case reading the specs and the reviews of people that actualy have the MB it seems to be the case. Plus the company states its the first of its type atleast for AMD chip users. Would be nice if Intel would again get theres out to market I have no desire to use AMD just for front USB support.
