I'm throwing together a temp media machine, and I need to run between 4 to 6 optical drives at once. Does anyone know of any high quality software that can rip multiple instances at once. BD, DVD, and CD will all be used simultaneously.
Nero can BURN to multiple drives at the same time, but I dont know of anything where you read from all drives at once. Probably just run multiple instances of Alcohol 120%?
You can always run multiple instances, but keep in mind that burning that many drives at once uses quite a bit of memory depending on the size of task (CD's use less but BD and DVD both use equal intervals). Also you will be limited by the processing power of your computer, ultimately you don't want to exceed 1 burner per thread let alone 90% total usage, so depends on your machines CPU, a i7 with 8 threads should be able to handle what you want, or an AMD 6 core, or i7 6core will handle that kind of task, smaller more affordable processor should be able to handle 4 once again bias against your total memory and what your burning, but 8GB should be sufficient for that number of burners more or less. (4)
mmm not 100% sure haven't ever had the need to create a system my self to do that degree of ripping, let alone running 2 rips at once. So I can't say which program would work the best. From what I've read so far, basically any ripping program that will allow multiple seperate instances, what is generally the limit from what I'm reading is running out of Buffer, due to memory or not being able to process it fast enough so it will auto clock down the speed to a buffer that it can keep stable, so what you can do is lower the speed, I mean you shouldn't bypass the speed on the disc to begin with, but you can test it out 1 at a time monitoring your CPU, Thread (Core), and Memory, even Hard disk usage making sure they are all within acceptable parameters not maxing out and none of the rips are losing any speed or buffer. If you lower your speed it will significantly take down the buffer speed essentially allowing you to more easily take on more rips at once without problems so unfortunetly there isn't a magic formula for it besides trial and error (mostly trial) on your system since the performance system to system can vary so much. So I would recommend not getting to many burners if you don't have already, also depends alot on your system but just start slow and work your way up and find your limit so you don't go over your head, but I would imagine with a decent system you should beable to at least run 2-3 instances without too much problems. Though decent system in my Eyes in an i5-7 and 6-8Gb of Memory at least.
Appreciate the info, thanks. Yea I have over 400 discs I need to rip so I'm going to try to get at least 4 going simultaneously. I'll do a bit more hunting for the software and see what I can dig up. Thanks again
