no you dont. It has an 800MHz processors, Android 2.3 update will require a 1GHz processor or higher. SO that product is obsolete and will no longer have any more system updates. Sorry to be such a downer on that phone. YA its really cool now, but with the next update it will be very not cool If you want an amazing Android phone, and that will be capable of future updates, then get the Samsung Vibrant. http://galaxy-s.t-mobile.com/
Well we don't have t-mobile up here, I moved from where I had sprint and amazing service, and it is through U.S. Cellular. Still good people, but not as big as Sprint, Tmobile, Verizon and AT&T obviously.
possibly. That may or may not work. I dont think Google wouldn't simply release Android 2.3 and make it available to all Android phones if it didn't work properly on many phones out there cause the phone was too slow. Most likely the firmware update for the Android OS would do a hardware check and see that the processor is a slower model and not allow for install. Or they would simply only allow it to be installed on phones they approve and the carrier would not release they update except for the specific phones above 1GHz. You could always try to force the firmware update by downloading the files yourself from another source and flashing the device if the carrier doesn't release the update for the G2, or if the OS does a CPU model check. No guarantee it will work though. Here are the minimum system requirements for Android "Gingerbread" (assumed to be Android 2.3): Processor speed: 1GHz RAM capacity: 512MB Display size: 3.5" How they will force those checks I am not sure as a 3.5" screen isnt something you can just poll hardware for. Either way, the G2 meets all that but the CPU speed. So it may or may not work to OC the processor. It is kinda odd to me though that Google would make a new phone and release it less than a month before they are scheduled to release an update that is supposedly not compatible with its new phone.
I was looking at this one as well. I really need a new phone, I still have a crappy 5 year old standard flip phone. Are the galaxies any good?
Although the Desire HD is a "better phone" for T-Mobile, It and the other HTC phones from the same generation have really horrible battery life. I am not quite sure why though. Especially the EVO 4G. I prefer the Galaxy S phones for 2 reasons, first they have the best graphics performance of any phone, and they seem to have great battery life. My Galaxy S "Captivate" for AT&T goes 3 days of use between charges sometimes. 2 days at the very least. That is a couple short calls a day and between 75-200 text messages a day. With a game or two thrown in once every couple days for 30 minutes or so. My brother-in-law's HTC Desire will have its battery almost completely drained after an hour of playing a game called Robo Defense. My Galaxy S will only drop down 1-2 bars (out of 6 or 7 bars). Arimil: If you have a g1 now and have gotten Android 2.2 working on it, then you probably stand a good chance of getting Android 2.3 to run on a g2.
The battery life is the main selling point of the Galaxy S. I just find it hard to believe that smart phone users still care about having more than 6 hours of battery life. How long does your battery last with heavy usage, multi-tasking specifically?
So is the Desire a good game? I play often games like baseball superstars 2010, and a few games here and there. Not really big into the whole modding thing and getting quake to run on my phone. I prefer the apps and stuff like that.
