I dunno what I am supposed to do. It seems as though everyone is already settled into their cliques before classes have started, and no one seems to interest me enough to establish any social contact.
There are no events, and they didn't have dining halls open for a day.

And also for that matter I am probably transferring schools because the 4th best art / computer / video game design school in the nation is right near my hometown.

How do you know someone isn't interesting before interacting with them?

I love college. I was browsing TeamLiquid.net the other day and I made a new friend because he liked SCII as well. Nerds rule!

No kidding. I had a few people come into my dorm room last year to watch me kill the Lich King in WoW. It was pretty exciting for them, watching me play a video game lol.

Eh I dunno, I can just see my type SO quickly.

If I see a girl wearing a Slayer shirt and crazy hair, instant like.
If I see a guy wearing a shirt that says "football!" I'd probably not even want to talk to him.

And one thing that is goddamn irritating is that I can't have a pet.
I've lived with pets my whole life. Seems lonely without one.

So you want to talk to girls and you don't want to talk to guys. Good to know... or did I miss something?

You should just relax and stop sterotyping people so quickly! Those people are just as nervous as you and will revert to items of clothing they are used to. Just because he is wearing a football shirt doesnt mean he's an idiot 'jock'. Just be yourself and be open to people, you'll have friends like that in no time instead of labeling people and shutting them away instantly.

What age range is 'college'? Is it the same as University here in UK(18-21)? When I moved to college I spent the whole week drunk and having an awesome time with people. I made the EFFORT to go out and randomly talk to people. People arn't gonna come to you my friend, you need to step up and meet people.

But as someone else said, you will be homesick. I was really really homesick for about a week. Got to the point where I phoned up my parents and was really serious about quitting! That goes away sooner than you think, and you'll start to love it. I've been at Uni for 3 years and I have had the best group of mates ever, now I'm 21 and lucky enough to be accepted into Imperial College London to do a Masters degree to follow on the one I got from Kent, so I get to live another year in the student life!

tl;dr stand up, be open, dont hide away, people are just as scared as you, dont sterotype people, people are much different than what they look like, enjoy it as its gonna go by so quickly.

Like someone else said - open doors + an interest of yours = insta-friends.

I remember playing Star Wars IV-VI in my dormroom the first day when I was kinda bored - had the door open too, and people just started coming in. Made quite a few friends the first week that way!

Typically, yes. At least most people's initial go around. My class hit just about all ranges at some points though with a 16 y/o and a 45 y/o, but most were 18-21 starting.

Don't worry about it, it will work out best in the long run. Don't make friends, it takes away from study time. The most important thing is to develop a passion for your work! Everything else takes a back seat to being the best you can be at what you love to do. Once you get really good at it, you can teach other people and work with charities and just plain do things to make the world a better place.

Friends just make you get drunk all the time for reasons that get harder and harder to explain as you get older, then eventually the parties stop once everyone runs out of excuses and then everyone gets married and has kids and you go on facebook and wonder "Whatever happened to so-and-so...?"

Ah, but whatever. Just saying, it's not so bad.

One thing that really bothers me about college...
I have been here for a while and the school is 80% female and there are no girls who I find have any sort of attractive personalities.
(Have a girlfriend, but like to have girls as friends).

Don't complain I go to a school where its 75% male it seems. The ones that are female are have neither attractive personalities or attractive bodies. Just gotta make an effort to meet people off campus ;p
