Might & Magic Heroes Kingdoms is an excellent way to wait out next year's release of Might & Magic Heroes IV. This first installment of the franchise's MMO will see thousands of players taking sides with the game's four factions - Necropolis, Haven, Inferno, and Academy - building their kingdoms, advancing their heroes, and forming strategic alliances against their foes. The game is free-to-play right in your web browser, so the only thing you have to lose by trying it out is countless hours of previously free time. Simply sign up at the game's official website, and you're on your way. While Ubisoft is saying the iPad version launches today as well, I've still seen no sign of the app in iTunes. I tried it... and no. It's one of those stupid games that you don't actually play but rather you watch. Sorry but 2 hours to build a building or fight an enemy is more "watch your timeline" and not "play a game". Same reason I think farmville is retarded. I won't be playing this.
I gave it a try a little too abstract for me. The Civ games are right at my tolerance level for this kind of game and even they wear thin after a couple games.
It's not designed for people that want to sit behind their monitor and work on their tan all day. It's designed for people that want quick and concise gaming in short bursts. And Farmville is so successful due to social obligation, which Zynga has mastered better than any other company out there. HoMMK is your typical real time build strategy game, there are dozens out there, but not with the name sake this one has.
Alrighty, well, I take it all back. This is the worst one I've seen thus far. You literally have no interaction in this game, and you can't attack someone at night. So if your troops which took 19 hours to get there, get there after 9pm. Well... Sorry... send em back. Lame
Cashing in on an established name and ruining it Nothing released in the chain has been any good after M&M7/HoMM3, mm8 was lame, HoMM4 relied too much on the hero rather than army elements (4 heroes could destroy 100+ elites) HoMM5 tried to go back to 3, but rather than use the good parts of it, they used the annoying bits of it. Unfortunatley turn-based strategy only works in limited PvP or PvComputer situations, if you have too many people it becomes frustrating, and whilst this sounds good in theory, meh.
The design for these types of games is to get the audience of people at work on the computer when they shouldn't be and housewives. Then they get them hooked and nickel and dime them to death.
