My PS3 is deaded... symptom: After a few minutes of running Video display freezes, colors displayed may change, and small pixel sized dots appear on screen. System still responds to remote and makes sound. Weep weep... $180 repair cost... GREAT HEAPING SOBS! -KM
If you don't know what BRD is get out of this forum. $180 for a bad video card, guess that's one way to make back the hundreds of millions they've lost on the PS3. How long did you have it for, before it went bad?
*gets out of this forum* I too thought about Bard from FFXI And I *gasp* don't have blue-ray. Haven't even purchased a DVD in quite a while either.
Ya BRD = blue ray drive. I can still play harddrive games but no more disk based stuff until I get it fixed or buy a new one. If your not hard up to play PS3 games you might want to wait a few months been some rumors floating around about 199 PS3 sku maybe for Xmas.
I've had it for several years and got it referbed from Gamestop back during the inital price drops. Sony actually does a flat rate repair/replace on the systems for $150 plus $29 shipping. -KM
Try fixing it yourself? http://www.ps3news.com/forums/ps3-g...lace-ps3-blu-ray-drive-laser-lens-100237.html
Wow, I was just about to post this when I read the OP, but saw you posted it first. Darn you!!! BRD/WHM ftw!?
I don't have the tools for that kind of stuff I have 1 Phillips screw driver that fits standard computer screws and a hammer. I flip a coin to decide what one I'm going to use on any given project. :bashful: I've been wanting a slim for awhile now any way.
you know, I was almost thinking this too. I think I'd try to fix mine if something went wrong and then if i couldn't get it, I'd buy a new one. I'd only pay the $180 if they guaranteed the system to work for at least another year with no problems. having it fixed twice is a new system right there - not including the shipping both times. + a new game or two thrown in with the system, if you find the right deal the variable here of course is how much downloaded material you have on your existing system. the games could be a hassle but you can get all the pron back for free seriously, hope you get it all figured out in the cheapest and best way possible. having something like that go seriously sux. it's one of the few times a man can weep and not be called a sissy.
These systems are designed to actually last you over 10 years if you take care of them properly. If something broke is a possibility that the hardware was faulty to begin with and it had a time limit. I look at it like I look at a car. Once you have to open up the engine and fix something it never runs the same. In the long run your better off getting yourself a new system. Yes getting all the data from your old one to your new one may take a good minute but it is always better on your wallet. OFT!
Hope you have all that data backed up since swapping the HDD won't work. Sony thought it would be a good idea to encrypt the hard drive on a per system basis. Meaning if you don't fix that one you lose everything that was saved on it. For that very reason I have yet to get a new system after mine did the same as yours about 5 months ago. After a few minutes it would freeze.
System doesn't stay up long enough for me to pull the files to my USB so I'm going to have yank the HD load it into my USB enclosure and pull the files directly... at least I hope that works.
