Fact: Michael Phelps' blood lactate levels after serious exercise is only 1 third that of any other elite athlete. That means his body 'feels' the effects of 100% exertion way less than other humans and is therefore able to recover faster. Enjoy the moment because we all watched history in the making.

In a previous life (1992) I was lucky enough to race at the Barcelona Olympics. Tell me, is Phelps a superstar now in the US? If he was an Australian he'd be worth millions now but in America the swimmers play third fiddle to the footballers, baseballers, ice hockey players, basketballers etc.. .
