So since AVG has suddenly turned into a heaping steaming pile of shit, what's the next greatest thing out there that won't turn my rig into a crawling piece of manure?

hmm, I upgraded to AVG 8.0 Free Edition, and never really had any troubles so far. Although, while scanning with avg, and this happens on all versions, my computer slows to a crawl, rather annoying, but meh

Im running with Antivir... its great protection but you get a popup every once in a while.

  12. I've been using avast ever since AVG couldn't connect to update anymore. But avast is nagware telling me to get the payversion and then it becomes threatenware telling me to register again,... OR ELSE!

I'm av-free now, screw it, it hasn't found a virus in the past 10 years so it probably won't find one in the next.

If you have a decent firewall and don't download fishy stuff and stay away from IE then there's nothing to worry about.

Last time I saw detection rates on different anti-virus software, AntiVir performed better than the rest of them, Avast wasn't far behind. And the popup for AntiVir isn't really a problem when you set your updates to happen in the middle of the night or on next boot up.

Especially when I leave a torrent overnight which ends between me getting the popup and me waking up, because I set uTorrent to shutdown my computer when it finishes, thus closing the popup.

I liked AVG until 8.0. But I've turned off any risky services, don't visit sketchy sites etc. Haven't had a virus ever(except that one time I connected to the internet on a fresh windows install - infection happened in less than 1 minute).

avast is the best, it does a good job and doesn't take to much memory up.

Never had that happen b4 with avast. I just entered in the free home key and that was that. Never asked me to get the pay version.

I currently have mcafee AV on my laptop, since it came with it. Should I uninstall it and get avast/avg or keep it on.
