parents computer just died......funny thing is we couldn't even hard shut if off.....as in holding the button didn't work. After pulling the plug, turning if off holding the switch resulted with it almost instantly restarting.........as in you hear it shut down for a sec and then it instantly just goes again. No video, not even sure the BIOS beeped....or even has an indicator because I don't think I have ever heard it beep when turning on. No video Everything turns on though, CPU fan kicks on, network indication is going. I'm guessing its the mobo as a whole though, since the video card is an onboard and this thing is almost 7 years old. I have no older video cards to test it out on their PC so I wouldn't be able to find out. I have tested with all RAM out to see if that was causing the issue.....nothing to my dismay....so i just grabbed the HDD to access all the video files, and am probably going to buy them a new PC for their birthdays......since they are 2 days apart.
It's the NIC, check your bios see if you have a wake on XXXX setting. Typically what happens is when you're shutting down and still recieving packets your nic won't let you go off or idle.
If it was RAM, it would most likely beep. You could try another power supply if you have one handy - you don't need to screw it into the case, just plug in the mobo and cpu power to see if it boots.
its not the NIC bra......no video is getting through this thing was just working fine till this pass wednesday.
Oh, I read the rest......too bad you can't access bios when you don't have any video......I did get it to shut down, but I'm pretty sure the onboard video is fried.
I had the same thing happen with one of my old machines. Circumstances were different to yours but result sounds the same. If its the same thing that happened to mine (Cant remember the specifics) unless your pretty good with computers its probably worth taking it in to get fixed. Or yes, get a new one.
