So we need to create a video. I wonder what the rules are about showing some in game footage. Could we be sued? Whose voice should we use?

well I dont think we will get sued as long we dont clam this game as ours and make sure people know its for a guild and not a game lol

 

I have experience in editing & image post-processing, and can help in the editing process.
Also used to work in promotion & advertising department, so I know the drills.

As regarding the game footage, I do not think you can actually use it. I do not know all the advertising legislation in all the countries in the world, but I know in my country it could be a slippery topic, even if you state your goals as non-profit.

 

Using someone elses game footage without their consent on national TV will more than likely get us sued. Though we are only recruiting people and are technically a "non profit" organization I doubt they would see it that way.

We could do a reverse army commercial. As in how they are always like "It's not science fiction...its the army". Have it along the lines of "No, its not the armed forces, its video games." and switch whatever live footage to a video game(if we can use some). Finish it off with a "You can't do it all on your own." Flash over to XoOhq.com

 

Best thing would be to:
1. Record the footage we would like to use, in excess.
2. Contact the game owner companies, presenting them the game footage and at least some general script for the commercial, asking for permissions to use the game footage.

We can present it as a situation in which XoO promotes its own name for its own uses while the game gets promoted as well, and for free (for them).

Now as far as I know from my experience most of the companies will want to present their logo and the game logo during the commercial on the game footage, I have no idea what the legislation in US for those displays are. Also in such a situation there is a whole set of rules for how to display the logo and how not, but given the proper documents from the respective companies, I know how to deal with that.

 

Who in the community has a very deep, manly voice?

I was thinking Fox, but I really only know the Aion crew and the CoD/BC groups, didn't know if we had someone that was active that had an EPIC MANLY VOICEEEEE.

 

We could always ask the developers of the game if they would let us use some in game footage. If they say yes that's good if they say no then we know for sure.

 

i could do the voice overs lol, i worked for a radio station for about a year and a half and had 3 shows, 1 in morning 1 for news (epic news caster voice) and a metal show at night lol. ths is an awesome idea though!
