Is there anyone else that happens to have this wonderful game? If so, I highly suggest you look into a program called AdHoc Party or Xlink Kai, so that we could hunt together =D

If you haven't heard of this game/series yet.

    from the Monster hunter Wiki

Monster Hunter Freedom: Unite (MHFU) if the third in the series of Monster Hunter games for the PSP. It can be played Solo or Co-Op with you and three other hunters (provided that you've reached the guild hall [more on this later]). The game, in general is regarded as fairly difficult, with a very steep early learning curve that mellows out to a decent grade as you progress.

The story is centered around You, as the Hunter of a small village. Your job is to take quests from your village elder (and later the Hunters guild hall) to take down aggressive monsters that pose a threat to the village. The game is played out in such a way that, when you accept a quest and depart the village, you enter a loading screen to go to whatever area that you're hunting the monster in (don't be fooled, they can be fairly sizable areas). Only after meeting the requirements of the quest are you allowed to return to the village (unless you abandon the quest of course).

The game sports a huge list of varying different Arms and Armor that can be obtained through various methods, including but lot limited to; Killing Monsters and carving certain needed pieces off of them or farming materials in the "Gathering Quests". However, apart from the rarity of the armor and weapons they can really be summarized into a few categories.

Blade Master Armor (can only be used with melee weapons)
Gunner Armor (can only be used with range weapons)

    Great Sword
    Longsword
    Dual swords
    Sword and Shield
    Hammer
    Hunting Horn
    Lance
    Gunlance
    Bow
    Bowgun

Every weapon type has it's own unique advantages and disadvantages. There isn't really isn't an overall best or worst weapon archetype, as every single one is useful depending on your playstyle and the fight at hand. In terms of armor, different sets have different stats, that give you special abilities, Such as

Attack Up (small, medium, large) - Increases the damage done proportional to the weapon that you're using

    Affinity (10, 20, 30%) - Crit =p

Guts - A monster cannot one shot you, if you're above 25%(I think) health. (This happening is MUCH more likely than you would think).

Guard Up - When blocking (only with weapons that can block of course), reduces stamina usage/damage/push back (of varying degree)

Ear Plug - Immune to varying degree's of Monsters roaring abilities (that would normally leave you quivering in fear for a few moments)

To see A few different weapons in action -

    Greatsword

Normally a fight lasts much longer than this (Between 30 - 50 minutes for hard solo fights). This GS user makes use of some very specialized skills that increase his damage exponentially due to the low health he is at.

    Longsword
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aC6r5cEYcQ
This is somewhat the same scenario as above. It makes for a somewhat bad representation, but it's what people have been uploading lately. You can, however see that around 2:35 He is about to pay the price for the strategy (you get hit 1 single time, you die).

    Dual Swords
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhmGCRx5JLk
A bit more of a straight up fight, although he is obviously fighting a somewhat lower rank version of that monster for it to go so quickly =p. Also, sorry for the completely silent video, couldn't find a better one.

    Sword and Shield
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmSsgry0IRs
A great video to demonstrate Sword and Shield. Although Khezu is considered one of the easier Wyverns (larger monsters), it can still be dangerous. Furthermore you can see the effects of someone hit by a roar as well as someone who lets his weapon lose sharpness (weapon power decreased) from too many hits without sharpening. As you saw it began to bounce off the monster.

    Gunlance
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sman8mZIkaw
Sorry for another quiet one! However you can see the gunlance in action! This hunter happens to use quite a lot of bombs and traps against the heavily armored Gravios to break it's chest open to expose the weak spot underneath. Also, in the video, you can see the Felyne Companion that helps you out during Solo missions (if you choose to bring him).

    Bow
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE3grLCfRSY
This bow user is using a similar tactic seen in the first few videos. However you get to see a bit of what the bow is all about. It may seem a bit awkward at first, but I promise that it's a great weapon overall.

That seems to be all for the moment, though I am quite tired. I hope to see some interest in this game =D.

I own it but I always find the monster hunter battle system to slow for me, I just can never get into it fully.

Yeah, playing solo can be a real pain when fighting something like a TigerX has to take 30 - 40 minutes due to the caution needed. The system is sped up a lot by a few tricks like traps and whatnot.

However, what really gets things going is playing online with friends. Fights generally last ~15 minutes (even for dual monster fights) and fairly often hilarity ensues.

Haha, sounds good man! I play with my roommate and a few of my other friends have the game as well.

Usually we have 2 - 3 people and just need a 4th, so any time your brother and his friend can't make it, we've got a party waiting for you ;D.

Also, btw TRI is totaly worth the wait ;p. I cracked my Wii a while back to play a semi-translated version of it.
