Ok so the problem is this. I'm literally in the next room to our house's wireless AP, but for some reason my signal seriously fluctuates all the time. And it makes it near impossible to play any games online. It'll go from 54 Mbps one second to like 11 the next and it makes me lag so hardcore it's not even funny. I do not however think it is our AP because my brothers mac, my mothers windows laptop, and even my bosses laptop from like 2000 work perfectly fine, and they stay at a level 54 Mbps. Which makes no sense that and old model laptop would work just fine, but my nearly brand new rig, which cost close to 2 grand, isn't work right. Any ideas guys? Oh and the wireless NIC I am using is the Linksys Wireless-G PCI network adapter with speed boost, and our wireless AP is a 2Wire brand, hope that helps some.

StryderZ - I didn't notice if you're on PC or Mac... Do you have on-board wireless?? ie. Intel or Windows Wireless? if yes, I would recommend disabling your Linksys and try running through Intel/Windows. This would at least tell you if it's hardware or driver related. :)

The "speedboost" portion of your Linksys adapter is useless unless connected to a Linksys Speedboost network, so that makes little difference to your problem. Some things to check for when getting signal fluctuations/interference: do you have a cordless phone/base within, say, 5 feet of your router or your network access point?, do you have any minimally shielded electronics near (music players, clocks, etc)? Although you say the other comps on the network work fine, also check the vicinity of your Modem for items that may be interfering with its signal (Comcast's modems are notoriously prone to interference from cordless phones, very poorly shielded).

If you are still having problems, it could actually be the router and how it is handling your specific signal. It may be giving higher priority to the other nodes on its Network and cutting you down during times of higher than average activity or stress (gaming being one of the highest). Check your manual.

Lastly; please consider moving up to N standard networking, especially if you need to game wirelessly. N standard routers are really no more expensive nowadays and a decent 'gaming' model will come with gaming profiles preset so that it prioritizes your gaming packets over your roommate's streaming pr0n!

Oh sorry, now lastly; can you run hardwire from your router to your rig?? It will give you a more stable and troublefree connection anyway.
