is anyone else getting this? I loved Rome TW and £17 on amazon.co.uk is a bargain imo. And apprently makes vast improvements on AI and graphics and stuff, compared to Empire (which i never got) Was released in US on monday and this Friday for UK. link: http://www.totalwar.com/napoleon/?t=EnglishUK
It looks stunning and the reviews I've seen for it have been stellar. I would like to pick this up as I enjoy strategy games, but am really bad at RTS style as opposed to turn-based. When you pick this up please give a review of it and it's "fun-factor."
Good to hear, I'm really only interested in campaign mode as I'm REALLY bad at RTS pvp I love war games though that actually stay true to what actually happened.
I have this game, it is quite fun. I hear it's very similar to Empire: Total War however, which I never played. I played Medieval II a lot though. There are multiple campaigns, you can either play as Napoleon or select one of the other nations. There is a Campaign Co-op mode also, which Napoleon:Total War is the first of the Total War series to have this.
Sorry for not replying sooner, was held up in LoL and was trying to finish the campaign map. I skipped TW:Empire, which is the predecessor for Napolean, but imo, it feels like an expansion back, which it essentially is, but you are not required to have Empire. The tutorial is ok, but doesnt really get to grips with the gameplay aspects. I think the problem here is that, it is forcing the gameplay into a very short period of time/turns, which doesnt really suit the game. From my perspective, they have moved away from the generic build every building in every city (in rome) to specialising citys into wealth, military, technology etc. I completed the first campaign - Italy -, but only just, as I was reminded that I only had 10 turns left to complete the main objective, so quickly had to rush my troops through the last few regions, looting and pillaging as i went, for some easy gold. I have moved onto the 2nd campaign, which looks a lot better (and bigger), and have read that the 3rd and final campaign is apparently huge. As for the real-time battles, attacking is alot easier, compared to defending, where you can sit and wait for the enemy to come to you oddly enough, while always continuning to whittle down their numbers with cannon fire . Defending, is slightly tougher, form my experience, but again I just need to get to grips with gameplay changes. I wish there was slightly more sea combat, as those were the times of the my ship has more cannons than you times, but not really an option in landlocked europe! But it is still a very good feature. Havent tried the drop-in battles or multiplayer yet, but hoping its more of a challenge! Overall, I would rate this game as 7-8/10. I only paid £18 / $27 / 22 euros, and glad I didnt pay more like £30 for a full PC game. But definately has killed a few hours of my time.
loving the game..Ive been deep in it for a week..I had lost my net. So this was right on time. Love how you can let someone jump into your single player game. They take over for the AI in battles..their game is paused..then then after the battle they go back to their game.
In the 3rd campaign there are more sea battles..get that dockyard upgrade fast. 132 gun ship of the line..I researched the copper plate and top gallants for lower upkeep and faster farther moving ships(that have top gallants). Get those trading spots fast like ivory and spices before your allies do. Get some warships out onto the trading paths and do some pirating. England starts out with a mean navy so I concentrated my ships on my south coast and worked around. I started at the bottom of the boot as my first conquest (italy)..they make wine which is a good export( i upgraded the winery and the dock there) Also the people are easy to please and you dont need to leave a large army behind..I did not loot. for ferrying troops the small fast ship works fine....if your attacked do the battle yourself on fast forward. Just stay out of range till end of battle.
I might give it a try when it drops to maybe $10. Empire sucked imo. Medieval 2 was the best. if you liked Rome, you owe it to yourself to get M2TW. However, if you loved the first Medieval TW, then you might be slightly disappointed as there are a few things missing.
