Im currently in the Mah'Habara area and am concentrating on maxing out my characters for their best 3 classes before i move on as its so easy to get CP here. Only got 1 class per person left to do too. Light currently has around 1150 attack xD so im running around with com, com, rav as my setup and able to finish battles in 5-15 secs
I get to watch the story line while my girlfriend playes it. Not that i mind, turn based combat will always make me want to vomit, regarless how many times they try to reinvent it. Otherwise if i could see past that, I think i would enjoy abusing the other game mechanics. Graphics arnt bad, as for the story, or what I have caught of it, its still just "we're the missunderstood good guys who are trying to save a world full of ppl who hate us untill the end where they all wake up and accept us" with some wierd names for their afflictions. Then again originality isnt exactly a standard in the gaming industry anymore. That being said I never played the other FF's, and as I understand it, alot of ppl's fondness for the recent editions of the series is the nostalgia it conjures in them.
This is the problem people are having with these games now they want the big money from action games so they try to cater to people like you but in the process they are alienating the players that like the traditional "my guys on one side of the screen enemies on the other" turn based combat that have been supporting these jrpgs in NA all this time but while they try and do that they don't satisfy anybody. One of the big things they really need to do is start telling grownup stories and get away from this high school drama shit the Japanese seem too be stuck on not only in their games but in their Anime as well.
I'm sorry, but everyone who is saying "it's a 60-70 hour game, it'll take some time for it to get better" are barking mad. FFIX is probably my favorite FF of all time, and that game had me hooked from the first hour. Why? The characters were interesting, the combat was good, the battle music rocked. And you know what happened after that? I knew what was happening for the rest of the game, I could feel connected to the characters I was traveling with easily, I felt for all of them, the soundtrack is still somehow ending up in some of the major melodies that I play on guitar (melodies of life to be more specific). The quality of FF has dwindled since X. I'm sorry but 30+ hours before the game gets good is a piss poor excuse and that's just everyone hiding the fact that they're a little embarrassed that they bought a $60 game that they have to wait to really have fun with or understand. FFXIII will get a bargain bin buy from me when it's $5.
This is like a professional reviewer playing a 60 hour game for 1 hour and giving it a low score. Can you really say you were connected to the characters that joined you in disc 3?
I loved VIII way more.....seriously Zell by far my favorite character, he blows snow away anyday. Plus there was a lot of freedom in nine, and some really interesting story points but that final boss was so fu***** annoying omg. But why has the FF series not gone real time like kingdom hearts? There is a reason why kingdom hearts sold as well as it did besides its characters of disney and FF mix. I kept getting pulled in by that battle system. Supposedly FF Versus XIII is going to have this system....which if it does it could be a really good and dark final fantasy.....no FF has looked this dark and grim before storyline wise.
I can't tell if you were being sarcastic the entire post or serious, but at the end when you state it will get a bargain bin buy from you when its $5. Does that mean you don't like it, or were you getting onto people who say they will only buy it for $5? /confused.
No, I'm not going to give a 60 hour game my time if I can't enjoy it after the first 5 hours. I have a life, and 60 hours is a lot of precious time, and if I feel like I'm wasting it then I'm not going to keep doing it. This is why I bring up past FF's to make a point, those games were good early and stayed good for the rest of the game. FFXIII is a huge disappointment and if I can't have a great experience from the beginning on then the game doesn't deserve my breath, just like FFXII, XII was HORRIBLE. And yes, I do think that this game is only worth a $5 bargain bin purchase, something to do when the world has run out of better released titles for me to play.
Sorry for the necro but if anyone is still working on this game and having trouble with traps all you have to do is upgrade Yanille's Ballaonda wand into her Final and upgrade her Final to full then extract it and the one trap you spend on it will become 3 extra for the rest of your team.
