I have a problem with headsets...Like a serious problem. I kill them way more than any person on this planet probably. lol. I'm not joking. There have been calender years where I have gone through 6-8 headsets. On average it's about 4, I think. I'm sure you are curious 'how'? Well, So many different ways. I walk away with them on...My dog chews on it. My dog(who likes to lay under the desk) gets caught up in the cord somehow ruining it trying to escape. But mainly I just roll over it alot. I have old hardwood floors and roll around just enough that I'm constantly roling over the cord. I've tried cheap ones, I've tried expensive ones....and I get the same result. The best pair was the ones I just had(Thanks for the hookup,Morg),durable as shit...Until Shasta(my wolfdog) got tangled up in them. I ordered some more last week but looking at the reviews they are going to be crappy, I can tell. Any suggestions?
You can buy a really good headset and buy a replacement plan. That what I plan to do. So you get amazing quality and if it breaks you can keep on replacing it.
Where do I get a replacement plan? I always order mine online. Should I go to Best Buy instead? I did just possibly find a solution. GOING WIRELESS!! Of course rolling over the cable as much as I do..I've obviously looked at the option of going wireless before. But all the ones I could find either had no mic, were for basic voip, or for a console. I could never find a solution for the PC gamer. However I just did a search again and found a few results! http://www.everythingusb.com/creative-hs-1200-digital-wireless-gaming-headset-15086.html This one looks like the winner, Now if I could only justify spending $100 on it at this time. ps: SHould I put this in Tech Talk?

Get a bluetooth set. You'll look like all the people that use them with cell phones but in the comfort of your own home in privacy.
I think most places will give a replacement plan for things under 200 bucks. So if you get a blue tooth headset you can still get the plan. It sucks when a 100+ dollar item breaks and your only option is to buy a new one.
I was about to post that creative wireless link too just don't leave them sitting where the dog can make a chew toy out of them
Why not use some cable management? I use the Razer Armadillo. I use it for my Mouse and Headset so my wires never move. http://www.razerzone.com/p-88-razer-armadillo-mouse-cable-management-system.aspx It is a piece of heavy metal with 2 grooves and the cap screws down on it. -Nastrand
I go through about 2-3 headsets per year, too, and I don't even have a reason. They just get all ... fucked up Sometimes stop working completely.
I prefer headsets for team play. Nothing more annoying than someone talking on the mic with their in-game music going on as loud as their voice. I prefer mine to come in more clearly. I do enjoy a really nice speaker setup(at least 5.1) around my computer for soloing or single player gaming. Especially when it's loud...But I share my office with my wife, and the bedroom is next to the office as well. So loud speakers aren't an option unless I am home alone. I've been trying to play without a headset for a week now. It's not as much fun for me and I'm playing worse. In CoD4, directional sound plays such a big part of the game, Not having it is a serious handicap.
I am HEARING you dash I have the same problem dog and all. Dog = 26 inches at the shoulder and 35kg. I have found the local Big W store your equivilent walmart has quite good 10 dollar sets, that I find give good directional sound and are behind the neck I love them and buy them 2 at a time always have a spare.
Dash, I have the same problem. My headsets ALWAYS break. Sometimes for no reason, sometimes because they get tangled around my feet and I jump up to take a piss or something and I jump up really fast cause sometimes my game is really intense and I play till I can't hold it any longer and the force of my jump up rips my plug and sound port out of my sound card... true story. But anywho, I plow through headsets like mad as well.
Be more careful and shop for the best cords and cord connection to the actual speakers, that's where mine break the most... my longest set got stress fractures in the plastic, and I've even had a backpack dropped down 3 flights of stairs and it clipped the headphones from my head... clean off. Last 2 I can remember were cheap buds and they got sheered off from the jean pocket lining, once when it got tangled at something on the bus when i was getting up, and another when I was giving my friend a piggyback ride that lasted several minutes. What I suggest? Buy a box, put speakers in box, when you want to listen to something take them out and plug it into the computer or if its portable tuck it into your shirt so there's no loose cord.
Buy Razer. They make some of the best gaming shit known to man. I might be planning on picking up the Tarantula soon (hopefully). But for you Dash, the Barracuda Headset would be a good choice. They're pretty tough headsets too.
That Razer paper-weight for mouse/headphones is really nifty. My roommate is hella (read: incredibly) sensitive to how his mouse and keyboard wire push or pull. I am too but I have a wireless keyboard and I don't use a wireless mouse because its too heavy imo to play FPS. As far as headphones go, I used to roll over mine all the time and I too went through maybe 3 a year. The current pair I have, has like a 7 foot cable so I used to roll over it all the time and it'd get caught in the wheels on my chair. Then I got pissed one day, went into the garage and zip-tied the fkr. I left about 3 feet of cable for mobility while hooked up to my speaker volume/bass control box/remote thing. It's kind of annoying still, I may go wireless...
