    god i hope not! itll be bad... very, very bad.

    ive always considered the anime side of my childhood pretty much beyond the grasp of greedy hollywood bigwigs (since the NA cartoon side clearly isnt, though its still beyond me why they gave Transformers to a guy who admittedly hates the franchise). and i would much rather they leave akira, and everything like it, alone... rather than ruin it.

    sounds like a horrible idea, who would dicaprio play in Akira anyways? all the characters were young kids

  3. Many cartoons have been turned into decent movies...nothing is sacred...
    including the age of the character...
    Dune was a great book..the main character was 12yo..the actor must have been 25.

    I loved akira...I hope they do it justice.

    When was the last time an hollywood flick did justice to an anime/manga ?

    The only man I think capable of such a feat is named James Cameron, and the manga will be Gunnm.

  6. batman and superman did well at the box office...

    scooby doo???? lol

    i think its completely impossible to make a good anime hollywood movie. Akira would become a hallow, storyless succession of CG action.

    My dear doctorie, I am proficient in english, japanese and french languages, spoken or written form.
    Forgive me if I use the correct word to specify them instead of lumping everything into a generic term :)

    Here are my naming conventions :

    comics -> Us comic strips
    cartoon -> Us animation
    manga -> Japanese comic strips
    anime -> Japanese animation
    bande dessinée (BD) -> belgian/french comic strips
    dessin animé -> belgian/french animation

    I enjoy all these and feel no shame whatsoever :D

  14. If that Eva movie concept of the chick w/ the short black hair is supposed to be Rei in the live action movie, I'm gonna flip a bitch.

    The one with the white plugsuit is Rei, the one with the black suit is Misato

    I hope they won't make a movie about akira, mainly because there is too much content for a feature length movie. I read the manga before i watched the animated movie and i thought those two were lightyears apart. Spoiler alert!
    In the manga Akira is still alive (just cryogenically frozen), unlike the movie where he has been dissected into hundreds of pieces. Together with Akira, Tetsuo floods neo tokyo and starts his own religion/regime. Apart from that there are a few more characters that are at least as intriguing as tetsuo and kaneda that didn't get a big role in the movie, eg. mama miyako
    The parts that they left out of the movie were the most exciting imo, and if they ever were to adapt the manga to the big screen, they should make a series of movies.

  17. I didnt read the book..Ill have to now. I assume your right and hope they do plan to make more than one movie.

  18. Akira is different from other animes. It's gritty, it's dark, and its got reality in check. This is why I think it'll do well as a live-action film... and also why I like Akira when I detest anime in general.

    Recent anime has been mostly crap anyways. The japanese market is contracting, fewer and fewer TV series are made, and the genre is stagnating. Which forms a vicious cycle as always rehashing the same stuff doesn't bring new viewers in.
