I loved SW:BF2, one of my all time favorite games! :(

Oh well, doesn't affect me too baddly seeing as I refuse to pay for online gaming now that I've got a PS3 that does it for free!

Sony is thinking about charging for their services in the future.

Until I can find that article (was on 1up.com or ign.com) this post is pretty much useless, amirite?

    Either way.. :3

If there is money in it, expect Sony there. It's free while it sucks, and while they still need PS3 sales. The minute they're up to par with Microshit, they will molest you and they will rape you and you will enjoy it.

One of the highlights of XBL was that you can buy an online game, and expect to be able to play it online for years to come. I guess they're taking that away now.

    Stick with PC gaming, folks.

Get your facts straight please. Sony is charging FOR PREMIUM CONTENT. ONLINE PLAY IS STILL FREE UNLIKE MS. That' means if you want to pay extra for releases and what not you can.

There is nothing wrong with PSN.

    Yes there is.
The fact that PSN is free for online gaming meant a lot less features at the start compared to XBLA. (voice chat for every god damn xbox game in existence compared to case by case basis on the PS2, remember ?).

And the fact that online servers are financed by each game's own publisher meant a lot of them just wanted to save money and closed those servers, while Xbox games remained operational online thanks to XBLA.
Not anymore. Microsoft had an edge in that respect and is forfeiting it.
    Boneheaded business decision.

As for PC gaming, I'm gonna laugh my ass off the day Steam closes.

Steam will never go under. It's way to profitable. D2D is the only other company out there that is anywhere near their level of game options but they are years behind in customers. If they end up having money troubles EA or that company that owns blizzard would buy them up in second. Or any other gaming giant.

I wouldn't be so bold as to say that Steam will never go under. However, I think their business model seems to be the way most of the market is trying to go. With that in mind I think that they are pretty safe for the time being.

As in some banks and companies were considered "too big to fail" because they would supposedly cause irreparable damage to the economy by going under.

    Not the same as:

In short: troll better next time

What? This post makes absolutely no sense.

Anyway, its not that big a deal... I mean, its original xbox titles. For starters, not a whole lot of people play it, and games haven't been made for it in... 3-5 years? maybe more? It seems sort of silly for them to be paying for their xbox services when its not making them much, if any profit.

I have only had a couple of experiences with PSN, and with those I am very glad I'm a live gamer. The interface I've seen sucks, and the services were pretty lame. I may have seen bad examples of it, but its more than enough for me to never buy a PS3 for the purpose of online gaming.

Also, I'm not sure if everyone's been living in a hole, but XoO doesn't tolerate using the word gay in a derogatory manner. Editting other posts....

Wrong. Halo 2 still a strong community of active players.

Wrong again. You can buy Xbox games on the 360 via XBLA: It's called 'xbox originals'.

What are you talking about ? Playing live with xbox games isn't free, the customers PAYS FOR IT.
Xbox live is the same price whether you use an xbox or an X360.

    1. That's one game which is 360 compatable and I believe uses the 360 console and such. Even if I'm wrong, its one game.

    2. You just proved my point. How long ago were those games made? And besides, if they have online play, how many people do you think actually play each individual game online? Not enough to make a matchmaking system worth being run, and itd take forever to find a game. Calling something an 'original' doesn't make it a new game. Look, here's 'Pong Original', same old graphics and bugs, but its new because its called original!

    3. I thought that you needed to have an original xbox live account to play the original games. My friend couldn't convert his xbox live account to be playable on his original xbox from his 360, which is why I assumed you needed to have both.

Also, this helps prove my point. I thought they were making money off of people paying for an old xbox live account. Instead, its an additional service they offer for people who play the 360 more or less. So they'll be spending less money for upkeep to get roughly the same amount of profit, since a very small percentage of Live gamers will cancel because they can't play old games.

(note, I won't reply to a 'rebuttle' until tomorrow since I have schoolwork...)

If you can't see that refusing your customer's business is bad commercial practice, there is nothing else I can say.
    This only strengthens Sony's position.

PSN : free, after a while the game's editor closes the servers because he doesn't get any money.

XBLive : costs money, after a while Microsoft kicks you out from the network because they don't give a shit about you.

    Why pay ?

I can see that its bad practice... I never said otherwise. What I am saying is that its a logical move on their part. Why support a console's online gaming when you don't support the console anymore? I realize that these games are resold as 'originals' on the xbox live marketplace, just as a way to give them activity/more money, but I doubt that the majority of the titles will have more than 10 people online during their 'peak' times, normally having no one online.

And why pay? Its all up to you... if you are hurt by them not supporting really old games anymore, I completely understand not wanting to give money to the business (I do the same thing with Infinityward/activision because of MW2, which I won't get into). I personally will continue paying my xbox live fees with a smile on my face because I enjoy the service far more than the free competition, and its not an expensive service.

Steam is a long way from failure, yes... they're still in the "ridiculous growth" phase (IIRC sales were up 196% last year).

Sorry but arnt the new Ps3 not able to play PS and Ps2 games anymore UNLESS you buy the part the took out of it

you pay for a membership there is a free DL that allows you to play some Xbox games which is alot of titles. To DL most the games you need Microsoft points kinda like how sony has there but there are also alot of other stuff Microsft offers on there network to that free

So you either have the Xbox game and get the DL or Buy the game on there network witht he Microsoft points
