Um. So? So instead of soloing content like every other mmo, we get an AI friend to solo with us?

How is this any different from WoW, AION, etc...?

I believe they said a long while ago that you would be able to solo the entire story line if you want to but you can bring friends with you and they can take part in the dialog along with the mission scaling for how ever many people you have with you. What they are doing is giving people options and not forcing certain behaviors on the players like other mmos.

I look forward to it, story driven witht the option of having friends join when available is much better than 1000 morons running around screaming ' OMG I HAZ LIGHTSABERZ!!!!1!!! '

rofl :p I think that the idea of adding computer controlled AI's to help you out with quest sounds pretty good if you cant find players for your parties as long as the AI is pretty smart (which is usually quite rare).

I wonder how that will work out, being able to complete quest in single player mode. I will post more about it later when i read the article for myself :D

Heh, this game is getting so much hype and at the same time so much hate from a lot of MMO players. I've been researching the HELL out of this game.

The old school MMO players that love open worlds and sandbox style MMO's are skeptical over this upcoming game. While it's obvious it's not going to be sandbox I think it's MMO feel and features are going to surprise a lot of haters.

Bioware has come out and said the game is going to have all the goodies such as raids and PvP and crafting and auction houses and all the typical MMO stuff. Bioware has never lied before so I'm taking their word for it so I'm pumped for this game.

I finally get to level my character in a story driven RPG similar to the way KOTOR or Dragon Age plays without tedious go kill X quests and/or grind on same mob for hours. And all the while be able to group with my guildies and either go off and do other instances or stop and PvP or work on crafting.

It just sounds like it's going to be a blast. I mean think of worst case scenario, they will obviously have a cool story driven leveling system, this is one of the few facts of the game. Lets say once you reach max level and theres nothing to do, well then cancel your sub and you just played Biowares newest RPG which are always good. That is worst case scenario! And this never going to happen, they have way too good and way too experienced Devs working on this game. They know they have to make an "MMO."

This is the first non-sword and magic MMO that I have at all been interested in. I guess from what I have seen and read we are looking at BIOWARE taking all the in-depth storytelling, smooth gameplay, and rich atmosphere of Mass Effect (one of the greatest games ever!) and applying it to a Star Wars universe as an MMO. Bioware has its shit together so tight that there is no way this game will suck. However, the ability to single play the content (with your little droid friend) scares me as an MMOer. One of the large parts of MMO is the community and the development of rivalry. And that is even more true with PvP content. I can just see playing and getting to max level and having some wars and stuff and everything is cool, then one day an entirely new group of people pop up that no one has ever seen before because they soloed all the content. I don't know really how to explain it, but it just seems a bit wrong.

SWTOR is not an MMO. It's an RPG with online features. Dunno why everyone is still calling this an MMO. Because it ain't.

I guess I am just gullible enough to listen to the developers instead of people on forums.....

Well, I can understand where Wolf is coming from.

I mean, yeah its still going to be a great game, but when I read that article I thought of a linear story driven character progression where you can't really branch out of your own class/story.

Again, that's what I got from reading the quoted part of the OP, and sure - it still is a massive multiplayer game in a sense that others can join you or be playing in the same type of area, or what-have-you, but when I think MMO I think an open-world not-so-linear "game".

Shrug, difference of opinion. Really, you can look at the facts/terminology - or just what each person considers 'MMO' > but what it really boils down to is that its still going to be a great, fun game that you can enjoy with others online, and that's the important part, correct?

    Very true.

Although I've met some good online friends from PUGs,
    But that rarely happens.

seems like its using the npc system from guild wars, where if you didnt have real people, you would get diffrent npc's.

Star Trek Online is the same way, just with less story. When you go to a planet, it can be just you and 4 of your NPC officers, or it can be you and 2 officers and a friend and his 1 officer, and so on until its just you and 4 friends. So yes it will play like Dragon Age, but rather then being made up of NPCs, your party can be made up of all players too, or just you and a friend and your companions.

Here is a video trying to disprove these statements. My take on it, Bioware devs say lots of cool things in this video and has Bioware ever lied? I'm no SW:TOR fanboy (not yet anyways) but I am a Bioware fanboy. :)

There's probably a lot of people who haven't seen these dev interviews, it's a good watch, gets me pumped for the game.

I gotta agree with Kave, I am not a Star Wars fanboi, but at this point, Bioware can have my babies. The company is just running away from the competition with the quality of their products. So, I am eagerly awaiting SWTOR as the game that 'pops my sci-fi cherry' in MMOs. The already did that with Mass Effect in single player RPGs.
