For anyone that is a true fan of the books you may have a bit of an issue with Guy Ritchie's interpretation of the franchise, but I believe if you're like me and can keep an open mind when watching you'll come away with a positive experience. If you know nothing about the Sherlock Holmes tales you can get right into the story without having that "hunh" feeling. As for the story itself, it was quite enjoyable, if you are a fan of the crime story genre you will enjoy all the twists and turns the story takes while trying to figure out what happened before Holmes explains it to you. The characters were developed well, albeit very nontraditional when compared to the books, their growth and struggles were clearly defined but not oversimplified avoiding that cliche seen it mentality. Classic London was quite gorgeous, however, you can tell that a large portion of this movie was done on a green screen but they didn't have a lot of overdone backgrounds so it didn't pull away from the immersion effect. The score was done by Hans Zimmer, nothing more really needs to be said, everything he does is amazing and Sherlock Holmes was no different. Overall the movie was very enjoyable I really didn't walk away with any complaints other than the fact that Rachel McAdams keeping her clothes on Good story, good acting, great score, great costumes, good immersion. 4.5/5 Half point removed for the overused green screens, I like not being able to tell when it's a set vs screen.
Just saw this tonight. It was a def + over avatar. Enjoyable storyline, great acting, good amount of humor, action, and twist to keep it interesting. I guess this is just a simplified version of vans review. Definitely worth seeing in the theater but if you are broke from watching avatar in IMAX then its not something that NEEDS to be seen in the theater to enjoy. DvD it or whatever. 4.5/5
The trailer threw me for a loop (because I have read a few of the books/short stories)... but I haven't heard a bad thing about it from anyone who watched it, so maybe I should see this after all.
Outside the characters and basic premises of the idea of Sherlock Holmes you won't find many similarities. It is a much faster paced tale with a lot more action than you'd ever expect in a crime story. It is not overdone though which made it really enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this one. I thought it had a good mix of comedy, action, and trying to figure out what is going on. I only guessed a few things correctly. I loved the breakdown of the fights then the execution. I give it 8/10. My girlfriend said she was bored and hated it. I don't know if I would trust her review since I pissed her off right before going to it.
